Brewers 1 Accy 1...Did i mention Burtfest?

It’s been an eventful season to say the least. Cup runs, beating the champions 3 times then flirting with the drop. Imagine how boring it must be support Man Utd or Chelsea..just big money bought success, stitching up the money so tightly that the same 4 clubs get all the spoils. YAWN!

It’s been another blast following the Brewers again this season. Honest genuine players and fans who support their local team. Im going to miss this. Good job we have “Burtfest” to think about.

Burtfest 2011 !!!!

Support your local football team and support local music and your local festival. It will be great.

Before the game i’m in the Whistle. The Tricky Trees demolish Palace on the big screen and make the last play off play their own. Good luck Forest in the play offs!
Im trying to go easy on the beer. After the game Its a couple more in the pub then off to the Rockaholic gig out at Woodville. Watching the Forest game means I’m later at the ground than usual. I meet The Biker and Biker Junior at the crossing by the Saragama. Uttox and some of the Royces boys are inside the ground. I tell a few tails about the trip to Southend..some of the details left off the blog to protect the embarrassed!

As usual Accy bring a handful of fans but they have an army of flags and a couple of drummers. They have made the playoffs and are making a racket. They never stop for 90 minutes. To be fair..its doing my head in. “We all know that Stanley’s going up” to the tune “when Johnny goes marching” has been repeating in my head for days since!
It’s a relief to have nothing at stake but pride. The last few weeks have been tense. Inside the ground a crowd of over 3000 have turned out to give the boys a well deserved send off. There’s an end of season atmosphere (well there would be wouldn’t there). Midweek Adam Legzdins picked up the fans player of the season ahead of my choice Jacques Maghoma. Jacques is missing today following the daft sending off last week. He’s a class act. Will we see him in the yellow shirt next season? Let’s hope so.

The Brewers are hoping to trim the wage bill yet improve performances. That going to be an interesting balancing act for the summer.

Accy put out a weakened side, no doubt saving players for the play offs, and the game is much less physical than previous encounters with Stanley. For the record i am NOT going to effect a scouse accent or mention Ian Rush. Anyway this is the Brewers. No one drinks milk here.

Half time arrives and it’s pretty even. The Brewers are making a good fist of it but how hard are Accy trying. Straight after the break the Brewers strike first as Russ Penn finishes a move that is top drawer. Incisive and clinical.
For each league place there are bucks at stake. 3 points today would please The Chairman. However just as it looks like a home win to end the season we fall asleep at the back and Accy nip in to steal an equaliser.

The players take a deserved ovation at the end and thank the fans. 2 Accy fans do a tango along the terrace.

So who wont be back? By Monday morning we find out its good bye and good luck to Gilly, who never regained the fitness that made him a vital part of the BSP team, along with Walker, Jackson, Young and Preen. As few others have yet to sign.
For me it’s time to concentrate on Burtfest – 2 days of live music on 18 and 19 June at Burton RFC. (dont think Ben would like us on his pitch). Look us up on Facebook and it you can ..be there!

THE BON JOVI TRIBUTE BAND

Good luck, hope you make L1
