Bus Strike in South Yorkshire on Aug 8

I know that many Stanley supporters like to use public transport to get to away matches particularly those with English bus passes, so you should be advised that First Bus drivers will be on strike this Saturday.

There will also be a knock-on effect for motorists, as Sheffield Wednesday play Barnsley that day.

I understand that trams and trains remain unaffected, but it it's almost certain that their schedules will be disrupted by the extra demands placed upon them.

As this industrial (in)action is not likely to be reported outside Yorkshire I thought I'd let you know.

BTW, please forgive me for mentioning that Rotherham United play at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield, this season.

(Don't they?)

Just found these two articles

New Community Stadium
February 2008. Plans have been announced for the possible development of a new community stadium on an opencast site at Parkgate, behind Parkgate Shopping. This scheme has now been withdrawn. Rotherham United are still looking for a new football ground somewhere in Rotherham

The club have agreed to play at the Don Valley for the next four years. In fact the Football League have stipulated that they must return to Rotherham, at the end of that period, if not before. Hopefully by then, the Club will have made progress to making the dream happen of building a new stadium for the football team in Rotherham.

Re: Bus Strike in South Yorkshire on Aug 8

Thanks for the tip off, Henry. My plans to park on western outskirts and catch a bus in are now thwarted as the service is operated by First. A bus from Bakewell may be an option, otherwise it's a train. Fortunately, the 52 that goes out to Don Valley is operated by both First and Stagecoach so half the buses will be running.

Looks like bus passes can be used on trams as well.

From the Sheffield tram site:

Concessionary Journeys:
Holders of a South Yorkshire or English National Senior Citizen concessionary pass are entitled to free travel after 09:00AM Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.
