Re: Cambridge Preview

Why, what does it say about 70/71? I can't see because I refuse to join Premium TV sites on principle.

Despite six years with no football team in Accrington, the locals were determined not to let the town become a football wilderness, and a new Accrington Stanley was spawned in 1968. Incidentally, the 'new' Stanley started their new history the same season as Cambridge United started theirs in the Football League, in 1970/71.
They get 68 right... I am probably missing somehting wiht the 70/71

Re: Cambridge Preview

They're right. Although Stanley reformed in '68, they spent a couple of years organising things, looking for a ground and recruiting players. They kicked off in August, '70 - a 2-1 win over Formby, if I remember correctly.

Re: Cambridge Preview

You're spot on. They didn't actually start playing competitive football until 1970.
