Moly was very hit n miss when he first came, but what a player he became, suspect Richardson will be similar, definate ability just needs to develop a bit.

Re: Cardiff match thread
Difficult to judge tonight relative to last 3 games because they're a Premier League side, who had good players, were well organised and pressed when they didn't have the ball.
We competed well despite the gulf in class, and felt match turned on one moment of top quality from their 23, and we switched off for the 2nd. Up to then, we'd done a reasonable job in containing them although they kept pressing and switching the play.
Is perhaps a little unfair to judge from tonight, but worrying for me that we've only had 1 shot on target in last 2 matches, haven't posed any real goal threat, had no sustained pressure and haven't scored in last 3. Added to this, we've not looked like keeping a clean sheet.
New keeper look assured and should help. 3 points with bonus of none conceded is a must for me on Sat

Re: Cardiff match thread
Have to agree with Darwen Red, our near namesake. 1617 is a scandal, especially when the Shrimpers pick up 5300 and the sponds from being live on Sky.
Poor old JB really does need all the help/support/appreciation he can get..all our really experienced players hurt/ suspended- a tiny squad etc etc.
But even with those caveats we saw so much to encourage us tonight. The defence looked rock solid for so much of the game- Atko and even moreso Aldred were monumental. For me Aldred has been absolutely magnificent since he arrived- a real find. Keep going Tom! Murphy as ever was all heart. Richardson was much improved and more assertive.
Very reassured by Marcus Betinelli- relieved that his first name isn't Sky!! Thought he was excellent- bossed the box, confident catching- quick distribution- welcome aboard Marcus- time at Stanley is a real badge of honour- you'll soon realise this!!!
Really liked the look of young Mahoney as well- he seemed fearless and created chances when he was on. As for Naismith- he's skilful, works tremendously hard BUT- I feel he should concentrate on keeping focused when he loses the ball - he gets too frustrated too quickly and needs to work on his psychology- and also sometimes- be a little less selfish- flicks etc are delightful but often I feel there's one too many and that's when we lose the ball. But the raw material is there to be sure- a really exciting prospect.
But one final Q- if you disregard the Clayton End- (which I would never do) we're beginning to suspect there are more Darreners turning up than Accringtonians- that MUST change.
Keep the faith and really get behind James and the boys Saturday next.

Re: Cardiff match thread
The gate of 1617 is worrying. The club need to look at how games like this are promoted as its been veer glow key and almost slipped under the radar. I remember other cup games, Newcastle, Notts Forest etc where there was a pre match build up, decent atmosphere and a sense of anticipation in the ground. Tonight was flat.
Really got to get into local folk to support the team as it feels lethargy setting in if we can't muster ourselves for turn out to see Premier League players at our ground.

Re: Cardiff match thread
Accy can proud of their display tonight, more than matched Cardiff for 55 minutes until their class showed. Plenty of positives to take out of the performance and should give the lads a confidence boost for Saturday.

Re: Cardiff match thread
Sorry but same old same old for me.
Fair enough the keeper and 2 CBs had decent games but to call that Cardiff XI a premiership side is kidding ourselves - it was a team of 2nd and 3rd string players - we'll player stronger teams in the league this season.
We sat to deep with no out ball so we could never get out of defence - this seems to be a common issue this season not just tonight.
Its a long season ahead

Pathetic yet again from the Accy public, half of whom probably think Cardiff are still in the Championship. You make a very good point re. the lack of build up in the media especially, but it doesn't help that we don't have a proper, authentic local paper any more. Two other points. One, this competition has been devalued in recent years, and we all know the big teams are going to send their reserve squads, which doesn't help a bit, so the ticket prices were quite high, even though the special 2 for one offer should have made a bigger difference. Still, well done to the Shrimps for a great attendance, even though they drew the biggest travelling support in the land.

Bit harsh, that. I wonder how the wages of tonight's squads compare? Do you know how much their no.9 cost?

Re: Cardiff match thread
Sorry Sam but even their second string is a top 6 championship side, Cardiff have vast resources that we could only dream of. We competed well for 55 minutes and they had one touch of magic that swung the game in their favour.
If you honestly think we will play better teams in League 2 you are wrong IMO. Why are people finding negatives in a performance that was solid and effort levels were excellent? Get behind the players.
