Got to eat humble pie after Sean Doherty's performance tonight. I thought he did very well all through the match coming in for Gary, and of course blasted the final penalty to send us all into raptures.
His play tonight was much more consistently productive than Roberts's ever was, although he doesn't yet seem to be capable of the flashes of genius that Gary is when he's not falling over the ball! Well done lad. |

Absolutely pants match but the penalties more than made up for it!!
ROBBIE ELLIOTT THE NEW PENALTY SAVING KING!!!!!!! Here's how it went 1-1 fulltime, no added time so straight to penalties They step up.....ROBBIE SAVES !!!(oh shame it was the lad who scored OG too!!!  )Craney steps up.... HE SCORES!!! They step up ....ROBBIE SAVES!!! Todd steps up .... HE SCORES!!! They step up.....ROBBIE SAVES!!!(keeper hat trick I reckon  )Brown steps up ....KEEPER SAVES  They step up ...ROBBIE GOES RIGHT WAY AND IT JUST SLIPS PAST HIM INTO THE CORNER OF THE NET!!! Doherty steps up ....HE SCORES!!! STANLEY ARE THROUGH!!! 3-1 on penalties

Having attended the match (crowd of 850) tonight, I have to say I agree with the post above about Sean Doherty. He had a good game tonight including tackling back and winning the ball. Thought Joel Byrom was OK till subbed midway through second half. Robbie Elliot was a massive boost for us during the penalty kicks and it wouldn't suprise me if he wasn't man of the match just for those saves. BTW it stopped raining at some point during the game. Linesman in second half at Clayton end was bloody awful. Did not know the offside rule. (2 defenders nearer the goal than Andy Mangan who runs through as the ball sails over there heads and he is given offside OMG!!!) and that is just one instance. Overall, the match was pretty even although Carlisle did have the ball in the net on 3 occasions, 2 were ruled out for offside and a foul. A great ending to a cool night in the stand. Roll on Saturday. Who was Gary Roberts??
