Re: Carlisle match thread

Yesterday was a good gauge of the theory that our players aren't very fit.
They played with 10 men, (without our two most energetic players? Brown and Matty) against a good team that was spreading the ball over the pitch.
We didn't need to use our 3rd sub, finished on top.

On the other hand I think one of our players was treated for cramp. (Or was it their player?)

Any conclusions from that?

Re: Carlisle match thread

Fair enough Chrisr. Your original post is pretty upbeat. I think I just read the opening critical stuff and decided you were moaning too much! So apologies from me.

Re: Carlisle match thread

A word on the keeper. Whilst he didn't always come out for crosses he clearly showed intent. Moving forwards, then stepping back on a couple of occasions. Looked like he made a good punch by coming out into a crowded area late on.
That was good to see, in comparison to our other goalies.
Just hope he can prove reliable.

Anyone else think Beckles wasn't entirely comfortable yesterday?

I agree with those who thought Romy had a good game. Classy as usual and in the game plenty I thought.

As a C.E.O.F. I must admit I did not see the hand ball that led to their goal, nor did I see people sat around that corner of the ground jumping up and shouting HAND BALL, which sometimes help's to make up the Ref's mind for him. I also saw Beckles let their man get in front of him to cause the panic that led to the goal.

Yes, he did not look comfortable at left back, would have had him at RB and Matty at LB

Re: Carlisle match thread

Coley played three at the back and Beckles was playing the role of 2 players really......centre back and left back! no wonder he may have looked 'uncomfortable' at times.
Initially I thought the Red Card for Matt was a bit harsh but having watched it on TV I can see that he went in too hard and two footed but not IMHO not too high! There are lots of dubious decisions these days that we see every time we watch the TV from Premier League right down through the leagues. IMHO at least half of the red cards should only be yellow. In t'owd days it use to be a sending off for 'Going in over the ball' which is not what Matt did yesterday. To me his tackle was not over the ball it was just too hard because he is a 'HARD' player! Think of the tackles we used to see from Billy Bremner and Alan Ball, Norman Hunter, 'Chopper' Harris and the rest! I feel sorry for the Referees regarding the directives from the FA on these tackles.
However, the ref yesterday Sarginson, was totally useless at spotting the constant 'push and nudge in the back' of opponents! Carlisle got away with this time and time again yesterday and Billy did it too in the second half on a number of occasions. The refs need to apply the more basic rules such as pushing opponents and pulling shirts. There are too many decisions made that spoil the contest by creating an imbalance of the teams on the pitch by rushing for the red card too quickly! Carlisle had committed five fouls in those early minutes and Matt's tackle was our first free kick given against us!
For the rest of the match I agree with comments about our boys playing really well. I thought that Romy had a great match, he ran his socks off. Rodgers was brilliant and was my MOM.
