Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

I think the phrase 'Cart On' may well refer to the years after the second world war when men would often be seen out and about roaming the countryside, going into farms seeking work, generally all they owned would be stacked on a push or pull cart that went everywhere with them.

My reference point for this is from the James Herriot books, where he mentions about such characters being frequently seen across the yorkshire dales.

Nice one KSH, I missed hearing it the other night too much noise.
I have to say it's nothing like what I imagined it's better and I would like to hear the full version.

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

Cart on is a Lancashire phrase.

it means carry on with the work you are doing.

example:-

2 men digging a trench, 1 stops and starts talking , 2nd one says "stop thee camping (talking) lad and cart on or we'll nair be dun for tay time"

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

I cannot believe all these people have never hear of 'cart on' Are you Hereford interlopers or what!!!????

Anyway back to the song, I think its great what I've heard of it. To anybody who is a singer on the terrace, just turn it up full and imagine the chant. Its got longevity IMHO. Could be one of those that dies a death after a few weeks and few people remember such as Accrington Go. But, its honest, its refreshing, its original and its different..

Cart on Stanley, cart on....

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

If you go to Engerlund, you'd better go up north
theres a town called Accrington,Stanley is the team.
They play in t'sixth (was at the time) division, but we have a dream,
and if you ask us 'who are they' this is what we'll say....................

Stanley, oh Stanley, we've got the recipeee
Lets keep fighting for victory, lets keep fighting for goals.
Stanley, oh Stanley, we'll beat them all
Accrington Go
Accrington Go
ACCRINGTON GO
nah nah nah nah nah na na

Some bloke released this just before we had the Viking invasion (250 strong Norwegian fan club and about 60 came over for a week, early 90's).

The Vikings knew all the words and this song reverberated around the clubhouse many nights.

Never heard it?

Nope. Was it that "Red Dawn" lot who had some sort of Stanley song for sale on a cassette on the table in the corner of the clubhouse that used to pass for the Stanley Store?

Are you saying the people of Hereford are dumb?

http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/304522-post38.html

Born and bred in Accy never heard of it, do people still talk like that after 1945?

Nope. That was the old Stanley song, On Stanley On, sung accompanied by a brass band if I remember correctly.

The Accrington Go song was a song done by the (deceased?) Norwegian Supporters Club. I think victory was pronounced wiktory in the song.

A good catchy song, woefully let down by the last word.
Delete that word and it'll be number 1.

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

Will comment on song itself when im fortunate to hear it LOL ....cart on??? mmmm are we back to horse & cart era makes us sound ancient with the thowd saying like that LOL

Suggestion for music at half time or something, well a bit of modernisation for the younger breed of fans a errrr new-old tune out footy style lol...... 'Ring of fire' {verano 2006] - Dario G [famous for world cup 98 theme for those that dont know] - drums in it are as mad as our drummer very upbeat i actually love it thanks to the kids playing it loud earlier

***Edit - encouraging piracy is to be discouraged and is not to be encouraged on this forum***
