Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Gutted yet proud of the fight the lads have shown yet again. Two down after 11 minutes away from home is no picnic. Big mention to cooky again for some bold, positive substitutions and early enough to have an impact. What a special squad this management duo are building.
I am one proud, positive red tonight.

sm
having listened to the game the locals were eulogising over our energy, tactics, ability and general spirit. Despite the result it was a great performance and shows so much positivity for things to come for Cooky,Leam and the young guns

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Just back, good game despite the result. Could've been Stanley 1 up inside of 3 mins, shot taken & off the bar by podge I think it was, then the Spireites did us good & proper 2 down within 15 mins, proper shocker.
The lads slowly picked up, but again to much concentration on one side of the pitch with no width, looking up constantly for a ball down & across the field, but no-one there so same old same old. Then one back for the boys & they were going for it, 2-1 Chesterfield half time.
Second half different team, the boys were on it from the offski, good movement & manoeuver, working for each other & using both sides of the pitch, good to see. Proper workman like display, but soft defending lost us the initiative & allowed the Spireites easy pickings. Yong liddle didn't deserve the Red, it was hard but yellow would've been sufficient.
3-3 & starting to flag a little, didn't see the complete build up to the fields 4th, but a possible offside ?? Still, 10 men, fighting back so well, but losing out to basic defensive slip ups, bit hard to swallow, but the lads did look promising.
One final note, them noisy booggers singing their lungs out made it quite clear who'd come to town, well done ! They did the Stanley proud, just like Leam & the lads, the futures bright, the futures Stanley.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Hi guys, Spireite fan here and just wanted to give my views on the match and in particular your team.
I thought a draw would've been a fair result and to be honest, with the amount of possession you lot had, it would've been hard to argue against had you won instead. Your five in midfield were excellent in all honesty. You kept possession and weren't afraid to hold onto the ball for long periods whereas other teams in this league would've panicked and tried an optimistic nothing forward ball. You had runners to join in with the front man and it was really quite fluid. Boco really impressed me and your right winger looked very dangerous, giving Ridehalgh a torrid time (sorry, I don't know the winger's name!).
You had the first chance in the opening minutes, think it was your right winger who cut inside, Ridehalgh slipped and he hit the bar but then we came into it and scored two goals in quick succession (whilst I want to compliment your team, I have to big up Jack Lester's first - it was a beauty) and I was glad that Richards finally grabbed his first goal. I thought we were going to kick on and put a few more past you and we nearly did when Richard headed one in from a corner only for it to be disallowed. I was right behind the incident and I'm sure that it was your own players boxing your keeper in but those decisions always go for the keeper and we've had a few of them too so I guess I can't complain too much. You then decided to start playing and had the better of the last 15/20 minutes of the first half, grabbing a goal in the process. I thought our keeper could've done better but he is our second choice. I also think you had a chance a bit before that which our keeper saved well but it was at the other end of the ground so I couldn't make out exactly what happened.
Anyway, half time comes and I wasn't too happy as you'd pulled one back and dominated most of the possession. You came out even better for the second half and the goal was only a matter of time, another cross from the right, our keeper failing to dominate his 6 yard box and our defence at sea. 2-2 and I thought there was only going to be one winner. Lo and behold, we make a sub and score. Youth team product Tendayi Darikwa comes on and crosses, Richards uses his body to block off your centre half and Jack taps in at the far post. You lot didn't stop, that's for sure, with more slick passing and fluid interchanges which eventually got you a deserved equaliser. I didn't actually see how it came about, I just looked up in time to see Boco roll the ball into the far corner and to be fair it looked like he enjoyed it.
The red card came shortly afterwards. I think your fans had a better view of it than I did - it looked a bit forceful but from where I was sitting, a yellow would've been fair but I wasn't complaining. We push on and (undeservedly) score a late winner, cross comes in from.. Lester I think and Terrell Forbes (who hasn't scored for a while) grabs a winner. We go 4-5-1 and manage to defend for the five added on minutes.
So yeah, I really felt for the fans who made the trip, your performance deserved better but football is a cruel game, we've all felt it. Like I said earlier, your midfield were very impressive but I must say, your defence were poor. Nsaila did nothing for me and if you watch the goal Marc Richards scored, nobody was near him. Your left back was good going forward but poor at defending as well, three of our four goals came from down the right. I'm actually interested in seeing how you do for the rest of the season now. Keep playing that excellent football, it would've been a joy to watch had it not been against my team.
ps I forgot to mention the handball.. sorry about that!

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Thanks Skengfarda and also Macca for the link to the Forum some really interesting comments and for an away team to have so many positive comments speaks volumes for what Cooky and Leam are building with this team.
Roll on Saturday

Cheers, Skengfarda (and thanks to our own DiG). Must admit, I've never read such positive comments about us from away fans. Cheered up now and well up for Saturday!

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
After a sleep/lie-in and having had time to reflect on last night's trip to Chesterfield...where was Cashy ??...I was impressed by their new stadium and nothing else as far as Chesterfield F.C. are concerned...and left wondering just how the best team by far came away with nothing ?.
The answer must have been that in spite of playing the opposition off the pitch in mid-field and up front, our defensive unit didn't perform quite as well as we have witnessed in the other opening matches of the season. But I suppose that's bound to happen now and again... so heigh-ho !.
I left being slightly disappointed that wretches like THAT striker should still be allowed to set foot on a football pitch..And of the opinion that the game was under-controlled by a Referee given to knee-jerk reactions rather than studied decision making whose 'Stanley-side' Assistant might have been better off at home with a dose of 'Emmerdale' he was so ineffective and seeming to be in need of an early appointment with Specsavers !!...These disappointments however were soon dislodged by memories of the pride felt at seeing Paul Cook's strategies bearing fruit and being translated into watchable, entertaining and effective football played by a side to equal any that I have seen recently !!.
Hope that we get good weather and an even better level of support on Saturday !!

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Gutted i didnt go last night and by all accounts we played really well.
If my memory serves me correctly, its a great playing surface which suits Cookys style of play.
Looking at the team set ups,Chesterfield had obviously not had us watched, and it looked like they went two up top and an out and out winger.
With us out numbering them in centre mid, there asking for trouble, and although they won,it sounds like we controlled the game.
Our system struggles against 4-3-3(which teams are adopting against us),and Coley switched to this in the season we got to the play-offs.
But then again I am a big fan of cookys football style,so what he goes for will do for me

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Drove over to Cheshire tonight listening to Radio Sheffield dripping with Chesterfield fans drooling over Stanley's performance "destroyed us with their midfield and attack" we only won because they did not defend to the same standard and their manager Paul Cook must be some manager "to have them playing football like that on the smallest budget in the Football League".

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread.............................
Some fantastic comments on the Chesterfield forum.
Cooky and the lads should be very proud of what they are achieving.
