Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........
First visit for a while but what a game, we rode our luck, battled brilliantly more so after Murphy's sending off. In this type of game you need your GK to stand tall and his catching of crosses was exceptional. my MOM was Aldred he won everything against a much taller striker. the new right back
settled in well. After watching the goals on TV we had an element of good fortune with the first goal but never looked in danger after second on went in.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........
JB seems to stick with a winning team as a matter of principle (not a bad one) so I don't see any need to argue.
For once, F19, I'd dare to disagree with you about Mr. Naismith. I like him a lot and he's got pots of potential, which will be needed over the next dozen games, but I noticed at Pompey that he and Mr. Molyneux tended to cancel each other out. Whilst Mr. Molyneux is available and cooking, I'd stick with him on the left but bring on Mr. Naismith if the opposition manage to nullify Lee's efforts.
Also think bringing Kayode on as a sub is a better option than starting with him.
Hartlepool will be smarting after letting a 0-1 lead slip on Saturday.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........
Ha, ha - looks like even their own fans didn't want to be anywhere near him, no wonder he made a right show of himself but that's not unusual! Give me the calm persona that Beatts shows during a game any day of the week

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........
Just about come down off the ceiling long enough to form sentences. I thought Luke Joyce summed up Saturday's game as well as anyone when he posted on Twitter that we had great attacking play in the first half and top class defending in the second.
Before the game I thought we might just edge a draw but became more confident of success when the team line-up was posted. Have thought for a while that the partnership of Danny Webber and James Gray is the best mix of skills we have in the forward line and it proved true from the first minute. Both players were willing to work the channels rather than wait for service which enabled Lee and Will to get into penetrative spaces. Our attacking intent showed none more so than the amount of times the skipper got forward into the opposition box - suprised he wasn't suffering from nosebleeds! In Lee Molyneux we have a magic ingredient - a player with talent far above his pay band, club and league who is enjoying his football. That kind of personnel is unplayable and he's showing it now just as he did this time last year. Top player, top bloke.
It's quite clear that Peter Murphy shouldn't have been sent off and it's an injustice that his suspension can't be appealed. The first yellow card was incorrectly attributed to Peter for dissent when in fact Gary Roberts kicked a ball at him. Even if Murphy was guilty - which he wasn't - the correct procedure at that stage with the player having committed no prior fouls was to warn him. The unfortunate incident with Gardener was probably a yellow card - I say probably because even then Peter did win the ball in a challenge which was not high, careless or reckless. Just because a player suffers a serious injury does not mean a foul has taken place. The behaviour of the Chesterfield lot - players and coaches included - was dispicable throughout the game and inevitably the ref succumbed to bully-boy tactics. The ref's performance after the half was no better - booking our players for the smallest of infringements (Will Hatfield yellow carded for passing the ball to his fullback to make a throw-in was the 2nd most ridiculous after Murphy's first). The nonsense we get at this level is laughable.
Our performance in defence after going down to ten men was a replica of that against Bury: Organised, clever and committed. I can't speak highly enough not only of the gigantic Tom Aldred and Dean Winnard but also the attacking players who showed great positioning and resilience.
One final hyberbolic mention for the skilful and strong Adam Buxton who had a brilliant debut against one of this league's most skilful attacking players. Hopefully he's got the legs to get through tomorrow's game.
Not having Peter Murphy in the starting 11 poses a problem for us as all our central midfield players seem to be off on loan somewhere. If Kal Naismith is fit I'd advocate playing him on the right and Hatfield in a more central role. Luke Joyce will have his work cut out though.
Come on Accy.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........
Very good read that Shaker.
On young Buxton,He's a attacking type of fullback, but on Saturday he had to dig in and really played well ( big step from 21s ),but there's plenty more in his tank.
Wouldn't take any risk on players fitness as our squad depth is good,so team selection will be interesting tomorrow
