Cod Almighty - Tony Crosland your boys took a beating

Huge relief. Couldn't see us scoring when I saw the team sheet.

Re: Cod Almighty - Tony Crosland your boys took a beating

The rumour is that Stanley are offering a free Valium with every ticket for the rest of the season.
Fantastic result, great battling end to the game but, I’m afraid, it followed an hour of frustratingly chaotic football from Stanley.
I was perplexed by the initial two subs but in the end the manager’s interventions brought forth joy.
Paradoxically, having Hunter as a stand in left back allowed him to produce his best attacking opportunities down that wing.

The ref was useless. Grimsby’s game plan seemed to be (1) get the ball twenty yards into Stanley’s half, (2) fall down theatrically when Stanley player approaches, (3) get a free kick, (4) pump cross into Stanley’s penalty area.
It must have happened half a dozen times in the second half, and the ref fell for it every time.

So, up against those tactics, well done to the squad for battling through for a much needed 3 points.

They "found a way". League 2 is a lot about gaining territory and less about scintillating football. Also, Young Henderson was rather good at drawing fouls in Grimsby's half. Well played all. Nice to see Kelsey Mooney on for a cameo. I didn't really rate him earlier in the season but he held the ball up and won throw-ins so the ball did stick up there with him for the short time he was on the pitch.......pleased for John and Ged and it will give the players a boost. Finally, pleased for Kiwi. He's been banging on about "young Hunter"...and we got to see him for a full game...which will do him good and allow other players to get used to how he can influence games.....

Well, he played there for the (larger) first part of the game, and did OK in Shaun Whalley’s role, but I persist in believing that the best person for that role is Shaun himself. He is less effective as a second striker imho.

The ref must have had a right pair of lungs.
He blew up for fouls 29 times, stopping play on average every 3 minutes!
Did our old friend Harvey Rodgers have a decent game?

Re: Cod Almighty - Tony Crosland your boys took a beating

It looked like Grimsby could cut through us with ease in the first half, but then the sky went black and hail came down. They wasted good chance for 3, we got the pen and they made subs and ran of ideas, lofting the ball up like Sunday league in the last 20.

Great 3 points, rode luck and beat a better side. Not seen a replay of the offside 4th, but the flag was late, not sure if it was a ref's call?
