Coley,Jimmy and the Lads
I find myself suprisingly calm after the rollercoster ride of the past few weeks but my thoughts go out to Coley, Jimmy and the team who must be absolutely devistated after last nights result.
I can take heart in the fact that this seasons massive improvement in our final league position is in itself enough to keep me happy with the way things are going on the football pitch. It would have been nice to get to Old Trafford and fantastic to have won that game but in the cold light of day promotion may have been a step up too quick after the struggles the club has had to contend with since promotion to the League. I hope the guys can take comfort from the fact that they have been apart of year on year improvement not just with the strength of the team but with all aspects of the club.
2010-11 is the best season ever for the modern Stanley and probably any version of an Accrington side in the history of the game. If you have been there this season you can tell everyone you meet that you were a part of that. Coley and the lads can take that with them where ever they go in the future. They have made a small town team into real contenders in the sphere of professional football.
Now we need the people of the town to continue the belief they have carried for the last few games and come and sustain their support throughout the seasons to come. Be realistic, the club needs money to continue to perform at this level. If we are to satisfy the ambitions of the best management team in League 2 then we fans need to match the commitment shown by the team this season and go and buy that higher priced season ticket or attend more games next season. Weekly prices went up by the cost of a pint of lager. We need to show our team respect and take that on the chin. They performed time after time this season despite being paid late we as fans now need to repay that and get our bums into the ground at every opportunity. Being on a tight budget myself, I believe it is better not to attend away games and save my money to spend at my own clubs ground or sacrifice a night out so I can get the new shirt.
Lets show the boys we can commit and sacrifce just like they have in pursuit of our common goal and I do hope some of the 2000 non-regulars from last night will keep coming not just for the big games or the 'free' games but the rainy Tuesday night fixtures in January or the traditionally low attendence games during early December.
Who knows this time next season we could be looking at automatic promotion
