I think it is very much the issue. Why are the fans not turning up?
It's all very well for Coley to state what he sees as a possible consequence of the low attendances. But the club must consider all the possible reasons for the low attendances.
He seems to be suggesting that those who don't turn up will have a guilt complex because they are responsible for relegation. So ... if they want to avoid the guilt complex, they will turn up at the FES/Crown Ground. Sounds very unlikely to me.

I'm with your way of thinking cashman,jc statement born out of frustration with the lack of home fans which once stud or sat at the FES,the team as a whole have played better than last season what we and the stay aways need is a run of wins lady luck rub of the green...lets hope old and new supporters find there way back to the FSE sooner rarther than later.

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
i could understand the other line of thought if J.C. was actually slagging fans, came across to me as stating "Hard Fact" to me the Public need to be aware of the situation, not sheltered from it. i have seen Accrington Stanley vanish into oblivion once, have no wish to see it again. from what i remember of 62,it came out of the blue.

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
i mean lets "Get Real" here, whilst the 1000 or so that go aint been treated great, a bigger concern is the 2000 or so that stopped, if Coleman can make em aware of circumstances, good on him i say.

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
the point is why arnt the fans that came to the FES after we had won at woking away to secure our conferance title not coming any more! i remember the home game after woking and it was packed in the clayton end! hardly any big gaps or nothing! is it becuase the ticket prices? becuase the club didnt act quick enough when the big crowds where coming in to make them buy season tickets for next season? or did the fans jump on the band waggon and want to be a part of Accrington and Accrington Stanleys history coming back in the league after 40+ years of non-league! i think most of them did jump on the band waggon when we where riding high in the league! always in the news buzz around the town stanley finally back in the league many people thought it would not happen! now the dream has happend and where back in the league and just doing adverage than no-one wants to be apart of that becuase it aint history anymore! it aint something they can look back on and say to the grandchildren i was there when stanley lifted the conferance trophy at the FES! we have done the unexpected on a low budget and brillant management and great players! now there is nothing to be apart of becuase were just a league club now, we have done the dream! now we are just a league 2 club nothing more or nothing less! there is no big dream (well there is if you read my earlier post) but what am trying to say is that now where in the league we are happy and of course want to progress but we are at the moment happy to be in league 2! when we was in the conferance and below we always wanted something more like we were happy to be in the conferance but we wanted league football and we pushed and hoped every season to win it and we did! if we did get gates of 2000+ home fans every week than we proberly could of had a new cow shed built all seated and roofed and would not have unhappy fans becuase of the seats going in the claton end! all i can say is every fan that can make it to the game tomorrow should go and support than lads on the pitch! regardless of what you feel about off the pitch actions and so on! give them encouragement when they make a mistake! ok have abit of a moan becuase we all do than forget it! show passion to the lads for 90mins than after that make it know if you dont like the way the club are acting e.g seats in clayton end i dont want them in the clayton end but i know they are going in there and there is nothing we can do about it just have to get on with it! so tomorrow be passionate, be loud, be proud for 90mins to be a stanley fan! win or lose for that 90mins you will of felt proud to be a stanley fan, and you will be stood/sat next to other great fans who all feel the same way you do about the past 90mins gutted if we lose! very happy if we win!

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
good passionate post mcr admin, to be honest K-P hit it right on the nail, sad fact but many want to watch a winning team, anywhere in the uk, the other 2 local clubs are good examples Burnley gates up, Rovers gates down, don't agree wi that mentality meself, but thats life. i shall be up sat, n tues, n stanley are my second team.but first love.

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
We've had this discussion so many times that I've lost count. This figure of the missing 2000 is slightly misleading, as the real missing figure is probably half of that (average this season is about 1400-ish, whereas in Conference winning season it was 2500-ish).
Some of that can be accounted for by fair-weather supporters, quality of football last season, Stanley no longer the non-league 'second club', etc. However, the main issue with Coleman's passionate plea is that it's very simplistic. There are numerous contributing factors to Stanley's falling gates, although the result is the same, i.e. low gates = little money for running and improvements costs.
The hard core will be there whatever, but as Kipax rightly says, only good football and results will bring back the floaters. Last season's poor home form and performances did a lot of damage and it will take more than a rant in the local paper to bring those people back.

but average conference away crowds were only about 50-100, FL away crowds are significantly higher than that. One could be inclined to think (Bagpuss) that crowds were higher than claimed 'back in the day'

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
I think 50-100 is very low when you consider how many the likes of York, Halifax, Morecambe, etc brought.
Don't forget, there're some very low away crowds in the FL too. Look at Barnet for example, and how many are we expecting from Dagenham today?

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
I was fuming when i saw the headline, thing is know where its come from, coley has asked eric for money for players [he may of seen & needs] & eric has said he has none blame the low gate, we have more washers than spectators!! He does it all the time dig, dig, dig, even on soccer am he cant resist a dig at the support, slating townsfolk, so little wonder that has occured to coley - probably a regular answer he gets from our chairman, so just now slips it in himself.
Why low gates.....................the answers blowing in the wind my friend!

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
Another reason, stated by Macca on many occasions is the unlucky £13 charged for entry, 13 is considered by many as an unlucky number.
But really KPs answer is the main reason.
Win = Crowds
Lose = No Crowds

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
If Eric threw money at JC and bought promotion next season, we might get - what - say 3000 tops as home support once the town realised we were winning? And if he didn't then throw even more money at him the following season, we'd have a losing start in Div 3 (just can't call it League 1, sorry) and the gates would drop back to not much more than we get now.
KP is right. Normal people are fickle about football. Mad people support losing teams, weep and spend time on this website!

Re: Coley plea to stay away fans
If Coleman is still unsure why people aren't coming to watch matches, he wants to try spending £13 to stand and watch games like today's, especially when cash is in short supply.
If I wasn't a season ticket holder and a complete idiot, I wouldn't be going again for a good while.
