I make it 728 players have played competitive (inc LancsCup) games for us since 1970.

Re: Coley Sacked!
I have to disagree with Davo,it wouldn't be such a disaster if we went down to the BSP, as long as the club operates within its means. All the clubs are full time and its a very competitive league, indeed generally all the promoted clubs do well in the league.
Lot of good teams in it as well,Luton, macc,Grimsby,Lincoln to name a few ,will testify to this.
We operate with a mid BSP team budget,so it wouldn't kill us like a lot of other teams, and we shouldn't forget what debt nearly did to the club not long ago

But why accept relegation as our fate?
Why did we bother getting promoted in the first place?
Football league status is our title, we should fight to keep it.
If that means bringing in a proven former manager at the expense of an unproven current manager (whos current record is bad), then so be it.
football league status is huge.

generally I'm not arsed about 'status', one league or another I'll always be a Stanley fan. However, it would be a disaster for our club in the sense that so much of what is currently good about the club would possibly have to be sidelined. I dont know the exact figures anymore but we get a goodly chunk of money for the Youth set-up and as far as I know the community side of things is largely dependent on FL cash.
I hope I'm wrong on both counts because if we do go down it would be a shame to see either of these essential elements get benched. We've spent far too long without any semblance of community work and now more than ever we need it to continue.

Re: Coley Sacked!
I think being relegated would be a disaster. We do operate with the smallest budget in the league, but there's something special about the place and ex players mostly reflect on their time with us with warmth - the number of ex players you see around the ground watching a game is testament to that.
Football League status brings with it a level of kudos not to mention the financial rewards. Our football league place was hard won and we've done remarkably well to continually punch above our weight to retain it. Let's not give it up as I fear, if we do, if will be a long time before we get near getting it back

Got to agree, so much would be lost dropping down to the Conference, plus the gates are no great shacks now but what would they be like in non-league

In a strange sort of way, probably better than they are now, albeit an increase in away fans. Geographically League 2 is terrible for Stanley at the moment.

This is the whole point though isn't it. We got better gates in the BSP before promotion, I won't comment about the money due to the regime that was in place then. But as LancsDave states, we would possibly be better off. It took the club 40 odd years to regain league status, I somehow don't think it will be that long again if we got relegated. Yes it is a constant struggle for the club. Certainly I had high hope for this season, however with the snake now gone, Leam is the boss, I know, I have actually called for some assistance to him, yet look at who is in the club now. The ex-assistant to Lee Clark when he was manager at a successful Huddersfield. Give Leam a chance to turn it round, but if we go down it is not the disaster you paint. I remember when team such as York were playing BSP when they had been in the league for such a long time, yet we played them and beat them. We can certainly do it again if we have too.
