Assuming we manage to retain our League status, I'd presume the next immediate & pressing concern for Leam is to tie up players he wishes to retain for next season.
I can only assume that the only reason certain players haven't been tied down before now is due to the uncertainty regarding League status.
In recent weeks, things seemed to have "clicked" and we look more like a side which would be in a better position than where we currently lie.
Therefore, I'd like to think that as soon as things are secured regarding League football, the sooner the typist in the office is getting busy with new contracts in readiness for the "chosen ones" to sign their new deals, the better.
Everyone will have differing opinions....but a few key observations for me.....
Boco.....With reported interest from "the snake"....Boco's contract needs sorting A.S.A.P. In the latter half of the season his drive & determination has been key. He's top scorer (with good reason) and I think we'd struggle to replace a player of his numerous attributes... A must sign for me.
Linganzi.....what a find !!! He's shown in recent weeks he can be a linchpin in midfield. He's already won numerous admirers at other clubs. He clearly has the ability to play at a higher level and given a full season will be a sought after asset who could command a substantial fee. The sort of fee that changes thigs ( ala Ormerod ) His signature should be another Leam secures pretty damn quick.
Molyneux.....Not a lot to be said really is there??? An absolute "no brainer"...a definate two year contract with improved terms needs to be sorted A.S.A.P. This lad has the potential to play at Championship level at the least. And make Stanley a lot of money when he does move on.
I could go on about other players, in reality I'd like to see the majority of the current squad tied up for another season. It seems that Leam has finally got things ticking over and a squad that he can "progress" with. With a couple of additions, who knows what next season will bring.
We've seen the green shoots of recovery in recent weeks. Certain other posters ( no names mentioned ) clamoured for Leam's removal when the storm clouds lurked. With light now at the end of the tunnel, I feel we need to back a promising young manager with the resources to continue the improvement. Pretty Damn Quick...Before we get cherry picked....again.
Financial resources / constraints will in all probability always be a factor in such matters. Though I do feel that as a club we should be recognising talent and our saleable assets and tying them down on contracts which maximise our compensation. Prime example.... Crewe Alex......
All this in mind, I now put the matter forward for your considered opinions !!!
Your thoughts please....Ladies & Gentlemen....
