Contracts /retained for next season.

Assuming we manage to retain our League status, I'd presume the next immediate & pressing concern for Leam is to tie up players he wishes to retain for next season.

I can only assume that the only reason certain players haven't been tied down before now is due to the uncertainty regarding League status.

In recent weeks, things seemed to have "clicked" and we look more like a side which would be in a better position than where we currently lie.

Therefore, I'd like to think that as soon as things are secured regarding League football, the sooner the typist in the office is getting busy with new contracts in readiness for the "chosen ones" to sign their new deals, the better.

Everyone will have differing opinions....but a few key observations for me.....

Boco.....With reported interest from "the snake"....Boco's contract needs sorting A.S.A.P. In the latter half of the season his drive & determination has been key. He's top scorer (with good reason) and I think we'd struggle to replace a player of his numerous attributes... A must sign for me.

Linganzi.....what a find !!! He's shown in recent weeks he can be a linchpin in midfield. He's already won numerous admirers at other clubs. He clearly has the ability to play at a higher level and given a full season will be a sought after asset who could command a substantial fee. The sort of fee that changes thigs ( ala Ormerod ) His signature should be another Leam secures pretty damn quick.

Molyneux.....Not a lot to be said really is there??? An absolute "no brainer"...a definate two year contract with improved terms needs to be sorted A.S.A.P. This lad has the potential to play at Championship level at the least. And make Stanley a lot of money when he does move on.

I could go on about other players, in reality I'd like to see the majority of the current squad tied up for another season. It seems that Leam has finally got things ticking over and a squad that he can "progress" with. With a couple of additions, who knows what next season will bring.

We've seen the green shoots of recovery in recent weeks. Certain other posters ( no names mentioned ) clamoured for Leam's removal when the storm clouds lurked. With light now at the end of the tunnel, I feel we need to back a promising young manager with the resources to continue the improvement. Pretty Damn Quick...Before we get cherry picked....again.

Financial resources / constraints will in all probability always be a factor in such matters. Though I do feel that as a club we should be recognising talent and our saleable assets and tying them down on contracts which maximise our compensation. Prime example.... Crewe Alex......

All this in mind, I now put the matter forward for your considered opinions !!!

Your thoughts please....Ladies & Gentlemen....

Re: Contracts /retained for next season.

Totally agree with your thoughts and your identification of the three 'must-have' players: Boco, Linganzi and Molyneux.
Unfortunately, Stanley are caught in a financial bind in a world where players themselves have much more say in such matters. At League 2 level, having one year [or shorter] contracts may suit some players at less wealthy clubs. It may be in the player's interest to hold out to see what another club will offer rather than sign again for the club they are with.
But it would be nice, for once, to think that this Stanley squad could go on and develop into an even better team next season, rather than the manager having to start again almost from scratch in August.

WHEN we confirm our league status, I will give my full opinion.

But agreed we have to do everything to try and keep Boco, Moly & Linganzi, but I fear they are all already gone.

Common sense tells me Smudge is more n likely correct, twill always be the case wi top players at small clubs. its what makes the roller coaster go around.

Agree with the above and would add Aldred, Townsend and Jeffers to the list. We can but dream.

What a quaintly old fashioned image that brings to mind! I thought typists were extinct. My wife was one of the shorthand variety many moons ago!

I'm sad to report ASFC definately don't have a typist!! On a positive note somebody can fill in the blanks on the pre-done form things!!

Re: Contracts /retained for next season.

When/If players move on it will be for financial gain only. Look at the players who have been taken over the years , have they progressed ? Take Andy Proctor ( as an example only ) he progressed to Preston North End , was made captain , how often do you hear of him having played, very often on the bench.
I think most of our players should stay put , if only to get more experience . Lee Molyneux didn't make the team for quite a lot of games, he sat on bench, then hey presto he comes on as a sub at Rochdale, takes a superb free kick , saves the day and is now in team every game, he is improving each time, would be a shame to see him sat on the bench at another club.

Re: Contracts /retained for next season.

As much as we all love Stanley, for the players it is above all a job. And which of us would not move job for more money.
And it is part of the deal of playing here that players are not held on to against their will. Most / Many of the players are really only here to put them selves in the shop window and if linganzi, boco, molyneaux can earn more elsewhere we have to let them go and search round for the next ones on the conveyor.
It's a tough old life but we don't have the problems that Man City, Chelsea etc have with a bloated squad of millionaire bench-warmers (as if!)

(and i agree: New Contract for Townsend! NOW!)

Re: Contracts /retained for next season.

I have said previously that the left side of our team is as good as any in League 2 - and I think that could still be so if Moly goes. Michael Liddle and Wilson would be more than adequate so I would want to offer contracts to those two.

Greeny makes an important point about Moly who had been on the bench. Those goals at Rochdale did wonders for his confidence. Greeny also makes a good point about players who have moved on. The attraction of a possibly short-term increase in wage has to be balanced against other factors. I suspect there are one or two players in the Stanley team who could have moved on for more money but chose to stay with us.

Assuming that we remain in League 2, I would like a contract to be offered to Aldred in addition to Boco and Linganzi. Excuse my ignorance but do we have anyone already contracted for next season? If not, I would add Joyce, Deano, Lindfield and Bavs to those already named.

Re: Contracts /retained for next season.

I seem to recall someone on here said we had just 2 players under contract when season ends. Can't remember who or on what thread it was? Unless i'm losing the plot or summat.
