Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
I hope we stay mid table for the next 5 years, where we can slowly build the ground up to a respectable standard.
If we were to make a push for promotion now, would our ground be suitable for league 1 and then the championship? If it isn't good enough, would we be refused promotion or will the league concoct accusations against us to deduct points.
I would not like to be in Eric's position, as if you spend on the ground you can't strenthen the team. If you strenthen the team you can't upgrade the ground, we just can;t afford to do both.
We need to be able to sustain a respectable squad, to keep us here in the league whilst sorting the ground, I would expect 5 years to be about the right amount of time before aiming for promotion.
The last thing we need to do is borrow money to spend on the ground, and take forever paying it back. Also we don't want to be buying any stands off other clubs for a quick fix.

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
borrowing money to do the ground depends on what it is for and how much. The roof would pay for itself, a bar would pay for itself. Better floodlights would not. If the lights are good enough then leave them alone no matter how crap they look (or looked). Tarmacced car parks may make a difference for the clubhouse and functions. I would never book a wedding up there again after my wifes dress got covered in crap getting out of the car. Some things are worth doing and some are not, unfortunately this year we had to spend a cart load on stuff that people do not notice or care about such as fences and extra breeze blocks. If we could have had that 200k on things already mentioned then we would all be happy at the ground improvements.

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
I'm saying, we need to improve things in order of importance without putting ourselves into debt, whilst sustaining a team who can keep us in the league.
I'll be happy if we only do one important thing per season, with a roof being the most important.
I don't want an all seater stadium, I'm not really bothered about a bar, or all singing, all dancing floodlights, although tarmac around the ground will be handy.
I know about the work in the close season, as I was doing some of it and 90% of that is hidden underground.
I'm really enjoying league football, in this league two-thirds of away fixtures are easily accessable, and I don't want relegation in the future, I still believe we will be ok this season.
My point is, get the ground upto a good standard that home and away fans, will want to keep comming back to, when that is sorted we could mabe attract players with better wages, and keep them. At present the only thing we can offer talented young players, is the offer of a shop window where they can move on to bigger clubs.

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
We need to be looking at our long term future, as Redash has stated. Stop in League Two for a few years, develop the Ground and THEN start investing in a squad that can take us up.
Anyway, aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves here? I mean, we've only just got here, can't we just enjoy it, despite results on the pitch? I know I am

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
If Craney is to stay up front then we need someone with more bulk in midfield than Jay Harris, Joel Byrom in that role would have far more 'prescence' in my opinion

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
spot on. Joel looks a decent player and could do a job in the middle. Craney can always drop in when we lose possession to tighten things up aswell.

Re: Craney to stay up front. Ventre back from Port and Anthony Barry back from Yeovil
Maacca - Danny came back from Port this week - as stated in a previous post in this thread. As regards the floodlights, it is common knowledge that they are being upgraded at the end of the season, as has previously been stated - thirdly, I personally think we have a team capable now of staying in the league and as reported by Kipax we have allegedly signed a winger from Witton Albion on loan witha view to a permanent contract in January, so the roof and bar option is looking good to me!
