Crowd Comparison v Last Season

Just over 30% of the home league matches this season have been played, and there are lots of variables that determine the crowd including; the opposition, form and weather. Whilst form is better compared to this point last season, there was a similar initial slow start, and last season had the bumper Pompey crowd.

How match day prices have affected attendances has been talked about on here, and whilst it won't be known properly until further into the season, the 7 home games may give an initial idea.

Over all least season the mean average (at home in the league) was 1,606 - and this season so far it is 1,475, which represents an 8.1% decrease.

However a fairer comparison would be achieved by looking at medians, especially which such a small sample size this season. The median represents the more typical crowd, not skewed by an odd very high or low attendance. In 2013/14 the median was 1,525, whilst so far this season the median is 1,505. This 1.3% drop suggests the prices may not be too damaging to the attendances over the course of the season, however more will be known on a match by match basis.

Due to club loyalty it has long been known that football match pricing is relatively inelastic, and so it seems thus far….

The facts are valid, I think reasonable season tickets and the flexi tickets have helped keep the crowds up.

I feel thou the high walk on price will make it harder for the club to attract new supporters and for cash strapped supporters. But I suppose club finances dictates this is the best way to run it if these figures hold up the rest of the season.

Clearly dropping after 14 compared to the last update after 9.

Every 1 lost would need around 3 gate payers to break even everything else being equal.

so if 800 ST, given away etc, then 1,100 this season would be around the same income as 1,200 last season given all other variables remaining the same and assuming a cat b match. So the big gates against Bury and Tranmere could have yielded a lot more to the admission rise as they were majority gate payers.

Without knowing too much detail I reckon the admission rise would be generating a reasonable rise in income this season (short term at least).

There are still likely to be 3 big attendances against Portsmouth, Carlisle and York which will generate increased income under the new prices. Like it or not, from a financial perspective the new pricing structure is a success.

And, despite my initial dissent, I have ony paid £13.50 per game due to the flexitickets as I bought them with the discounts and I 'm on my second lot now.

To my way of reckoning i think the new pricing has done little if any damage, The fact the wonderful one came home also done little if any damage, The work on trying to attract new fans, needs to continue, Hard work, but worth pursuing. imho.

I wondered the same so had a look at it - see attachment. There hasn't been a figure that has been repeated exactly (so no actual mode average) but the most common attendance seems to be in the 1300-1400 group. Don't know about last season.

The median shows the typical crowd without being skewed by the very high or very low ones.

Median is used for Income and House prices for that reason, and he median being below the mean shows they are more typically mid 1300s with a few higher ones skewing the mean upwards.

Lancs Dave could use the mode to determine what size football shirts are better to order/stock, but for crowd analysis the mode is useless.

The boosts from the Carlisle and Mansfield matches have brought the average closer to last season.

The highest crowd was 2,274 for Carlisle which was helped by a sunny bank holiday with the trains running properly. This was followed by Tranmere 2,151, which was an international weekend so no Everton or Liverpool games, unfortunately have now relegated.

The lowest crowd was 919 for the Burton game originally postponed.

Home form alone would have had Stanley 12th with 36 points 33 Goals (conceded 32 GD -1) and away would have seen Stanley 18th with 20 points and 25 goals (conceded 45 GD -25)

In 2013/14 Stanley were 18th in home form, with the same number of goals
as in 2014/15 33 (GD +4) but 8 fewer points with 28. Away form was better last year at 14th with 29 points (GF 21 /GA 27)

Therefore home form saw a significant improvement.

Overall Stanley got one point and two places less this year, but had a GD of -19 compared to -2 last year.
