Re: Crown - Meadow Lane Compared

Having played for Notts County on schoolboy forms in the early to mid sixties there was a decent atmosphere when playing at meadow lane,i used to clean tony hateley's and geof astles boots but to name a few.Non of the players from the first team down to us schoolboys were afraid to play there,i know fans can be fickle but this p**lock is just trying to detract from the decline that has befallen the oldest football league team.Even in the heady days of the sixties and early seventies County were always under the shadow of Nottingham Forest,i personally couldn't give a toss what Mcprat says. He'sjust trying to detract from the fact his tea are crap,he's entitled to his opinion the same as everyone else but i know where i'd sooner be,(IN THE CLAYTON END ANY DAY).so the next time he brings a team to the fes lets make him wish he'd stayed away.

Meadow Lane is yet another all-seater, soulless shell. The best thing about it is that the only UK branch of "Hooters" is just across the road.

Given the article and the locality of your favourite establishment pehaps you might like to suggest a change of bird related nickname for Notts County from the Magpies to the Big Tits

Does nobody think he has a point? I'm not knocking the club or the ground, but if I was a footballer I'd rather be at a club with decent facilities, than at one without.

I understand where many people are coming from, but surely he's only reflecting what many players think and have no doubt taken into consideration before deciding not to sign for us?

i do kind of agree like a stadium like rochdale, darlington! where they have decent facilities! would be good if someday we could have facilities like that! proper changing rooms, press box, etc

What I do think he has, is an urgent desire to deflect the spotlight from his own failings. I would imagine that he has a playing budget well in excess of Coley's meagre allowance, along with his much-vaunted "decent facilities", yet his team is only marginally ahead of us.

As for whether or not this influences players in their choice of club, I couldn't say, but I know one thing...having sat in the echoing, hollow confines of Meadow Lane and many similar division two stadiums, I'll take the homely surroundings of the FES anyday!

It really does leave a bad taste in the mouth when an underperforming rival manager tries to use us as a whipping boy.

I think you have to take into account the relative size of the Towns as well TM, Nottingham has a far bigger catchment area than Accy, okay there are two teams in the city, but supporters don't change sides, they're either County or Forests and its not that long ago that both these teams were in the top division too. Stanley have come on leaps and bounds since the disaster of 63, there are not to many clubs claw their way back like Stanley have done, there are clubs that have gone and are long forgotten as league clubs, Barrow, Workington, Newport County are examples, although Barrow did quite well at Borough on Saturday
