Never started a thread before but just thought I would like to hear your thoughts on our form and current league position. Just checked and we current sit 14th, only 6 points from bottom. Ok we didn't really turn up at bury but to lose our last home match the way we did and then apparently to be lucky (so I hear - couldn't make the game) to draw at Hereford then our next match is more important than ever.

Are we meerly just experiencing a blip ? Should we look at keeping with Richardson at the back after a good game on sat ? Joyce plays well can we include him now Proc is back ? And surely Turner instead of McConville !

Am I panicking a bit too early ?

missed Bury n Rotherham, due to hols, but i honestly aint seen owt to panic about this season, in fact i aint seen stanley play better since Walter Galbraiths lads.

And just 3 points out of the Play-off positions !!...That's how tight League 2 is tonight Boomer....BUT I take your point, with the qualification that ALL of the games from now on need to have a positive result, and that every team from now on will be doing their utmost to deny this from The Reds.

If it was a school report...I think you could be reading the comment " has undoubted ability, however could do a little better.."

I don't think we'll be troubled with a relegation scrap, providing we can shore up the defensive department a bit...Too many silly individual mistakes are costing goals and ultimately points at the moment.

Midfield...I think we've got an abundance of talented players in there, when Putterill finally gets back from suspension it will be like signing a new player and if you add Liam Richardson's return from injury (Saturday at Hereford sounded like he had a good game) I can't see the need to strengthen that department. If I was Coley, I'd just be asking them to chip in with a couple of extra goals as they're all good attacking players....

I'm also concerned with the forward situation. I think Gornell will prove his worth and probably chip in with 10-15 goals, however what I've seen of Boulding and Lindfield doesn't exactly overfill me with confidence. If Gornell gets injured I think we'd struggle with goals from those two.Hope I'm wrong but I think they both lack a bit of strength.

I think we've got to start turning draws into wins and also start picking up the odd win or two on the road if we're going to challenge for a play off spot.

I just hope that come January, Coley can get in a big lad (up front) who holds the ball up / can provide flick ons etc,etc. After all, hasn't he been promised some spends in the new year, with the money from the Newcastle game and all ???

think yer not taking into account, fer me our best striker has been suspended fer oer 6 weeks! if that guy stays injury free, will play well above Div 2 standard is my prediction.

Don't you think Carpon, that you risk upsetting all of his multitude of Fans by not making some reference to Sean McConville's current and future contribution to the Team's success..???????.

Carpon i couldn't of said it better myself. Being a relatively new Stanley fan I can't comment on the squads of the past unfortunately but I'm sure that will come with time as I learn more about the clubs history. I have a good Stanley historian at hand with bob (blows the horn in clayton end) he is the orical along with redraine !

I agree with our midfield we have cracking lads and I can't believe we kept hold of Ryan, Proc and Joyce in the summer. Just goes to show they are planning on the future of the club by keeping hold of these guys and coley has done well by bringing in some great players in gornell, hessy and puterill.

Yonmon i didnt know we were only 3 points off playoffs ! Like you say it's not all bad when you look at it that way.

I suppose with the squad we got compared to last year the future is looking good.

This squad has undoubted ability with some very good individual players & some stand out performances from them so far this season.

The shining light has been Jimmy Ryan who has got back to the form we saw in his first season with us

The football we have played has been scintillating at times but has also come undone at times with some sloppy play & defending that has given away goals

Up front we do still miss a genuine target man who can hold the play up and bring others in Gornell has shown glimpses of it and could yet play that role?

My biggest concern is that when we play against the more pressing/physical sides we don't seem to have the alternative to comabat it in terms of formation?

I had no pre-conceived ideas of where we would finish before the season started other than I felt anywhere above the drop zone would be a bonus given once again transfer embargos we were placed under before the season.

Coley has worked his magic once again in assembling a squad that on their day can play football the right way and turn over most teams in League Two but as the team do better and produce good performances so increases the expectation levels.

All in all it's been a sterling start with a couple of cup runs mixed in as well

One or two tweaks and if as others have said Coley gets a bit of money in January maybe just maybe.....

I think Valarian alluded to a similar windfall from the Oldham game too

Unless a player is being signed on a permanent basis then football league clubs don't need to wait until January they need to use the loam market better. Might need to sign a few on though if you're only going to get 15 minutes a game out of them

The problem is that Leam did not play at the back on Saturday - he was an attacking midfielder and indeed started off supporting Terry Gornell up front with Andy Parkinson playing a bit deeper. I certainly would not say he had a good game on Saturday. His contribution to the Stanley goal was superb - apart from that, I thought he was rarely in the game.

As I said in an earlier post, Leam should have been at full back, with Phil and Sean in the centre.
