Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
17 games left, hundreds of defenders signed on so thats at least 17 points. Couple of goals thrown in for good measure to get 2 wins and it's all sorted

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
Interesting update on the Hughes signing on BBC website
Quote:
Accrington have had a busy old day as they land former Everton centre-half Mark Hughes on loan from Bury.
I once went to a fancy dress party in Liverpool where Hughes won a prize for best costume. He was dressed as a shark eating a person. Hard to describe but an absolute joy to behold. Strange, but true...

Cannot believe that you have Podge as a striker..................

I am only quoting from the amount of times I have heard "Pod, nowt ever sticks, call him a striker???" and "Amond, rubbish, get him off", maybe I have misread the situation

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
Way i see it, yeh need a solid defence, that don't leave the team chasing a deficit, sort that yer half way yon, that should give more confidence further up the field, we aint gonna get a drogba, so the forwards need good service.

Not really. In my post I was merely putting myself in Leam's shoes! Cashy makes a good point though about a solid, experienced defence being a good springboard for attacking play, so let's wait and see what happens this weekend against 24 goal Tom Pope and co. Hope to see you there?

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
Quietly chuffed with today's business, One area that really concerned me was centre half. With Hughes signing, i'm quietly confident he'll give us a lot more steel at the heart of defence.
I've seen him play a couple of times when i've ventured over to Gigg Lane a few times. He's a big lad, good in the air and solid in the tackle. Some folk on Bury's message board say he lacks pace, though from what I've seen of him, his attacking presence at set plays in the opposition box will give us a dimension which I think we've lacked for a while now.
As for the other lads signing today as others have said, we should have the defence tightened up for the run in.
If Tom Bender has been released, then the window closing won't make any difference to whoever signs him, being that he would be a free agent. Maybe worth a shout offering him a deal until the end of the season???
Just one final thought....I wonder if a certain ex-manager (recently relieved of his duties) had any input with the decision to sign Hughes ???

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
Wow..I recall Mark Hughes being discussed on here a couple of seasons back. I subsequently watched him playing for a hopeless Nth Queensland Fury vs Wellington Phoenix in the A League and thought he was outstanding..
I bet you he scores a goal in the league.

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.
Not really convinced about our signings, although both are good players.
In reality, our last ten games we have conceeded 16,whist scoring 4.
If you look at the same period when we made the play offs,in the same ten games we conceeded 15,but scored 14.
Therefore we have only conceeded one more, but scored ten less, and that IMHO is were the problem arises.
