Development Squad

so at AH’s request to Coley, next season we are going to have a development (u23’s) squad.

Surely I’m not the only one surprised and concerned at this.
No qualms with cost etc, but surely the lads are going to benefit more playing men’s football out on loan.
Can’t see the likes of Ogle, Mohammed, Simmonds or Andy Scott being best pleased playing development football.
From the U18’s this season, I’d imagine only 4/5 being kept on.
Of those, surely players like Toby Savin, Harry Perritt, Kasom Shah etc would benefit more playing men’s football at regional National League (or step below level)

If it’s for the players that would have been let go from U18’s, it’s a big gamble.

Interesting move in my view.

The better players go out on loan still with every other club who has one.

Re: Development Squad

Wouldn’t say every other club mate.
Blackburn have got it right as majority of U18s play for U23s
The same team that outplayed our squad players in Lancs Cup.

Just don’t think we have a need for it.

Re: Development Squad

I think Andy is recognising the need to develop our own players. It might not just be about who we have now, but maybe it will help attract a better calibre of teenager to the club?

He's 'only' chucking 100k at it, which isnt a lot really so thatvsuggests testing the water
