DOOM and GLOOM or just 'Mirror' Talk !!!
Yes. it's me again!!...It seems that evry time I set myself up to send you all a cheering message on Matchday..so that you could look forward with confidence to the Red's marmalizing of Peterborough United !....then something turms up to sink me into my old pessimistic mode again....
I happened to glance ..in my neighbours 'Mirror' this morning ...and spotted our Chairman's rather despondent remarks regarding the future of our great Club....and when reading further about the abysmal takeup of Seaon Tickets..this made me think that perhaps the 'Fans' have to shoulder some of the blame for Eric's deepening depression!.
Yet...does the fact that I have got my Season Ticket...at last!..and that I subscribe to other money-making ventures at the Club..really make that much difference to it's overall week by week success...or lack of it!....( I really am in a gloomy mood this morning!)..or are there other more sinister reasons for this reported decline ?.
But... looking on the brighter side...lets hope that the equation, which I am sure our Head Teacher is tring to solve...that is...better
results + brighter football + new and exciting 'faces' + Paul Mullin
= Better Gates and an appreciation from the Town which Stanley so proudly represent !!.
There...I knew I'd feel better...and I hope that every bit of the superb support which our Chairman has given to OUR Club over the years is ultimately repaid by a fulfillment of his Vision for it's ongoing success !!.....
I'm certain that you have your ideas on this matter...as usual I'll be happy to hear them...........ON STANLEY..ON !!!!!!

Re: DOOM and GLOOM or just 'Mirror' Talk !!!
Just picked this up from the BBC website.
Accrington Stanley are in danger of going out of business for a second time. Chairman Eric Whalley says their financial situation is the worst it has been since their Unibond League days. (Mail)

Maybe you should have tried reading this forum? This has been discussed in a few threads over the last few days.

No no no it's not the fans fault so stop that one now, if anyone is to blame it's the people of Accrington for not getting off their arses and coming to the games. Eric has to take some of the blame for the way the club has been run over the past few seasons but I think things are changing so lets see what happens over the next few months.

How can you blame the people of Accrington for this and not the fans?
Why is it anything to do with the people of Accrington who have no interest in football?

Why is it the fans fault for not turning up, when they are there every game?

The people of Accrington do have an interest in football, they are supporting teams from other towns and cities.

Maybe you need to think about why they are and how to get them to go to Stanley.

Bob Lord knew what he was doing back in 62, erase the competition, so it's about time we nuked Ewood Park and Turf Moor then problem solved.

I would hazard a guess that most clubs outside the prem wouldn't survive on the gates they get. You need a good benefactor and a good commercial system to supplement the income. It's becoming increasingly difficult in the modern game to run the club as a side interest.

Re: DOOM and GLOOM or just 'Mirror' Talk !!!
Precisely Bagpuss, the competition and 44 years of non league, it all adds up to low gates.
There are many kids and teenagers on our terraces and in our seats, these are our future season ticket holders. It will take time.
If we can hold on for just a few years, we can be the envy of our league, with a good fan base.

Re: DOOM and GLOOM or just 'Mirror' Talk !!!
We are slowly waking up commercially with the appointment of Lew however it's a tough and difficult task pulling back 40 odd years of league inactvity !!
Most clubs are wide awake commercially we have just woke up and the town and local buisnesses are not responding bar the loyal fans 1500 at most.
Instead of bleating to the press get amoungst the children send the players to the schools, the factories the shopping centres SELL SELL SELL.
SELL THE CLUB TO THE COMMUNITY and stop feeling sorry for ourselves, we are a buisness we have to sell our product. We are no different from the companies that advertise on our ground !! they are selling themselves... sales and marketing it's the hub of any quality company.
And for goodness sake Eric SMILE your the clubs figurehead, your walking stright into the hands of the press, nobody but nobody wants to see the top man with a long face it's terrible for morale.
Play up STANLEY PLAY UP !!!!!

Re: DOOM and GLOOM or just 'Mirror' Talk !!!
IMHO the club are now reaping what they have sown over the years. When we were small fry we could afford to lose a fan or two here and there if their ideas or face didn't fit, we could afford to lose the odd supplier because there were more fish in t'sea, we could afford to lose investors because there were queues around the block. These people were lost through poor customer service and nothing more. All those people we need now, but they won't come back. Every year we will pick up a couple of hundred new fans, but also lose a couple of hundred - this is perfectly normal and happens to every business. The trick is to try to keep the two hundred that would otherwise leave through a variety of reasons.
Today I found out that a stalwart is having a year off because he has been to practically every game for years!! He hasn't fallen out with Eric, or th eclub, or the lack of facilities, he just wants a break. But wait until the big game comes along and he'll be back, we've just got to make sure that the bug bites him again and he'll be back on.
We have the roof.
We will have bar facilities by next week (apparently)
Things will improve - we've just got to ride it out.
...... and the Mirror got the wrong end of the stick regarding finaces being the worst they've been since the Unibond (which was only four years ago FFS), what was true was that season ticket sales were the worst they had been since the Unibond. Nowhere in any of those articles does Eric say that we are broke, nowhere does it say that if he pulls out we will go down the plughole. What it does say is that if the people of Accrington can't be bothered to watch us then why should we bother, we might as well shut up shop.
And where is Ilyas Khan while all this is going on?

bagpuss is correct Lord erased the competition in 62, i followed stanley home n away with my dad in old third div north, after the demise redash i went down blackburn cos accy had NO team, they were the first club i went without me dad,the same thing happened with most of the fans of the old club, loving football, most went to other lancs teams to see a match,so therefore as these fans grew up n got wed, they took there kids to the match, which is normal is it not? its a sad fact, but thats what happened,to me stanley need to really focus on attracting kids, over time that will really pay off i think, there is no easy solution, i wish em well.
