Eric in the Daily Telegraph

It's mainly a piece about Barnet but it includes a typical no-nonsense quote from Eric:

Re: Eric in the Daily Telegraph

This is what it said

Other non-League chairmen were equally succinct, like Accrington Stanley's Eric Whalley, whose club went full-time again this season after 42 years in the wilderness. "Don't tell me Shepherd gets paid for making those stupid comments", he said. "He should go and get a proper job. It shows what level of football he's been brought up with; if he'd done the rounds he'd be able to comment. I've strong views on football, and I hate people who try to decry the commitment at this level. He doesn't know what he's talking about."

Re: Eric in the Daily Telegraph

By way of interest, this is what The Times on monday had to say about saturdays goal fest:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...401599,00.html

It's not often that the serious national press reports on Stanley; so twice in two days, on different topics, is good going. it's just a shame there's a silly error on their headline.

I hadn't noticed that when I posted a link to it on the reports page on the official Accy site! I must have a look at the printed version to see if it's repeated there.

There's also a brief mention the previous day in the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai...3/sfncon13.xml
and the previous week there was an article about Oxford United's troubles (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai...9/sobose09.xml) that mentions Stanley replacing Oxford United in the League by retaking the place that they took after our resignation.

That would be poetic justice. And The Daily Telegraph is treating us as serious promotion candidates!

Also an error in the Telegraph's Oxford article. They replaced Stanley in the league in 1962, not 1964. It would be richly ironic if we took their league place now.
