Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
Following a chat with the OSC tonight we are looking for feed back on forming a group within the OSC for Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
Some things what the above would look to cover are access to the ground, shop and ticket office etc, tolilets, seating, away travel
This would be done with the support from Level Playing Field please take a monment to look at their website
This would not only be a group to get improvements at The Crown but also a social group to bring fans together who for whatever reason find it hard to attend games, these events would be at venues with wheelchair access
You do not need to be a wheelchair user to part of this group
May you walk with a stick and need lower seating areas at away ground
May you have speech problems and need help at home or away grounds for whatever reasons
May be like me you are a parent of a disabled child and need extra help to enable your child to watch live football
Whatever your need is be it a little or alot we would like to hear from you
Would you like a group, what would you change and how, would you attend meetings, social events etc.....
Email [email protected]
Many Thanks

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
I've read the thread, and didn't comment, so I will.
I applaud this move.
I attended every home match in the season Stanley won promotion back in to the league, and quite a few away matches too, thanks to Speedy Gonzales, Ms. Harwood Red.
In theory, having Parkinson's disease, I am disabled by this long-term condition.
One of the reasons I no longer attend is financial, as it a relatively large percentage of your finances when you're on a fixed income.
If I recall correctly I did ask in a thread on here if there was any discounts available for disabled fans, as there are at many other public venues. I was told by reply that there wasn't.
I genuinely hope this move will help people who have difficulties go and watch Stanley.
Hope you don't mind me poking my nose in.
I remain a fan, but now follow the results by spending my money on buying cheap flights to go and spend winters with friends who live in the sun, which is beneficial to my health.
I wish you well, and think what you're attempting to do is a very good thing.

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
Kate, my personal feeling is that this particular site as good as it is as become a minority one in respect on numbers of supporters contributing (my opinion) I think you should approach Dan and see if you can get this into the Programme for the entre 2011/12 season. I would also approach the Telegraph and Observer for free space or at least get them to allow a quarterly reproduction on the letters/community page.
If you can't get Dan/Club to publish for free ask how much it would be if you could get someone to sponsor a page. Also do you get free community advertiser booklets coming through the door? good source for getting this information out the wider community of supporters. This is a good thing and a step in the right direction.

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
Thanks Doug
We plan to hold a open meeting Sept 6th at the clubhouse to hear anyones views on this subject,we hope to have rep from NADS at that meeting.
The idea was supported by the OSC last night and ideas were floated about using the programmes, local papers, contacting special needs schools, support groups etc....
ASCT were very keen to help and support this group as the ASCT run a under 18s disabled football team
We are also taking advice from NADS and Bury DSC to what has worked not worked etc....so we can avoid these pitfalls

I agree.
You need more feedback than AW can now give.
I'm sure the press would be willing to help spread the word, about what's being attempted.

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
We will be using lots of different ways to ensure as many people as possible known of the idea.
AW was the 1st place we could get the idea out to after talking to the OSC last night

Drop me an email ( [email protected]) and I'll definitely sort out the former for you and have a word with a few folk about the latter

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
Maybe the club could offer the services of a dedicated steward on match days for any assistance to special needs fans.

Re: Fans with a disability/long term illness/extra needs
this is something we hope to be able to do,but all stewards do undertake disablity awareness training and on the whole most stewards are very help with disabled fans but a named steward with a diffrent colour and a logo on his jacket/bib would be much better for disabled fans
