Formations / Tactics??

All the talk of the reserves trying a new formation at Tranmere has got me wondering. With the players currently onboard, presuming they all stay injury / suspension free, what formation do our knowledgable contributors feel we should be playing??? What about the style of football?? Short, intricate and neat or long ball??

Would you use the same formation home and away or adapt formations/tactics as and when it suits??

Ultimately the decision lies with Coley and J.B. , but I think a few of those who regularly post on here think that in some cases our tactics / formation(s) seem predictable.

Personally speaking I think an adaptation of the 3-5-2 formation would work, with the the wide midfielders/wingers going forward more when we play at home and sitting back when it suits away. That way we could accomodate the dearth of midfield players we have at the moment. It would also allow us to play Williams,Webb and Roberts at the centre of defence. Also when we take into account the number of central based midfielders (including the adapted Browny) we have, all in all I feel (and it's my own opinion) this formation may benefit us.As for playing short and intricate and neat or long ball, I think a happy medium of the two would suffice.

Horses for courses and all that, but I wonder what the general concensus offers???

I'm generally happy to leave it to Coley, but would like to see Rommy in central midfield, but then again think Browny deserves a run, can you play them both there, would we lose width? This sort of thing applies all over the pitch, which is probably why I'm generally happy to leave it to Coley.

I'm reading "That Damn Utd." at the moment, which attributes the following quote to Brian Clough, " Tactics? They're professional footballers, let them sort it out." Made me laugh.

i also think we should go for 3-5-2- because too many time our forwards are isolated and wander into midfield with nobody in the box.but anyway today the day when carden scores on his debut

I probably spent nearly as much time stood on the Kop as on Gwladys Street in my youth, Bagpuss, now it's Whinney Hill; talking of which, time to be off.
