Fund raising and publicity
There are some fantastic ideas appearing on this website and wonderful individual commitments.
But I'm wondering if anyone is co-ordinating publicity for all this. There is so much happening that it should have huge local, national, and international publicity.

I do believe that the likes of Rob Heys, Dan Warburton and Martin Edmundson to name but three are being kept aware fully of what is going on and it my understanding that they in turn are informing the necessary press Etc. Heres hoping.

Re: Fund raising and publicity
Getting a bit annoyed with the club, all this publicity, all this effort and money from so many people and they don't have the sense to put anyone in the club shop all weekend. Been down twice to try and buy something and the place was deserted both times, surely they must realise Saturday is their best day to make the cash. That along with having one person on the bar at the fans forum it's just suicidal business practise, get another barmaid on for a couple of hours would have cost the club 10 quid and instead of people queing for half an hour and then slowly supping to save having to go back up people would have got onto their second and third drinks, making more profit for the club.
At the meeting we were resassured that once this debt has cleared the club won't face the same troubles as it is being ran much better now, I fail to see any evidence of this even at the very basic level.
Another issue is how they dismissed keeping the donors list on the website up to date as unfeasable - it is easily possible to automate the process and when I went down these last two days I was going to offer to do it for them but again there is nobody there. If it is so hard for somebody who is determined to help the club to do so what the hell chance do they have of persuading the casual supporters.
As for a couple of new fund raising ideas how about getting the good local restaurants, the college one at globe centre, over coffee, dunk etc to give the option of adding a £1 donation to the SOS fund with every bill.
Also how about taking the SOS shirts on the road but instead of being in red have them in the home teams colours with their name on the back. For example for the shakers a blue shirt with SOS on the front and BURY on the back.

Not so much costs, more the the risk of being left with stock if they don't sell, after all you can't sell them at the next away game. If people think they could sell a few then it's no problem.
Samf wish I'd known it was you yesterday, I was going to have a word with you about designs etc..

Re: Fund raising and publicity
Posted via Mobile Device Thing with the sos shirts is it was a on spur decision between us and timmins to get the word out, subject of selling them only came at the meeting when a few suggested that idea, so which is being done as best as can stock permitting. I suppose we can do the print on any colour t shirt n writing and will therefore go to the fund the same and is a good idea if we have run out temp on stock or while awaiting it, that would be upto the customer

Re: Fund raising and publicity
I'm sorry to come back to this one. I see that the thermometer on the SOS site has been stuck on £6763.57 yet according to the Blackburn Citizen, an American has donated £5000 and we know that the bucket collection raised at least £3500.
I do hope that someone at the club is in overall control of the appeal and is keeping a close watch on and account of the money being raised. I would dread there to be awkward questions asked later about money seemingly not accounted for.
It's also important for public relations that the thermometer is kept up to date. Otherwise there is a danger that cynicism could creep in and affect the fundraising efforts.

Re: Fund raising and publicity
RR, if you look at the bottom of the "Roll of Honour" section, you can see the current breakdown of contributions...
Paypal Total 1,463.57
SMS and Phoneline Total £300.00
Private Donations £5,000.00
Total £6,763.57
*** Please note bucket collections from 05/09/09 (Accrington & Bury) not included in Sundays totals,
these will be added as soon as final amounts are made known to us *** Thanks
I'm assuming that the Private Donation Total of £5,000 is the Yank's contribution. As they say, the bucket contributions haven't been added yet. When they are, I assume the total will be somewhere around the ten grand mark.

Re: Fund raising and publicity
the other thing to remember is that, as important as the refreshed info is, whilst staff are tapping around on computers they aren't on the phones or visiting people to claim donations/sponsorship.
Same with the arndale stall, its important that the staff of ASFC are seen to be manning the trenches, but whilst they are doing that they aren't doing other more lucrative things.

It's all going into a separate bank account so they should know the balance at any time. At least that is what we were told at the forum. I think they should publish the name of the bank account in order that anybody donating by cheque knows what name to put on their cheque If they just put 'Accrington Stanley' on the cheque then it may get paid into the normal day to day account.
