Gillingham Thread

Alright dudes
Due to a pressing appointment with a 250-odd mile trip to Kent, you've got an early start to the match thread today.

Here is your preview - ASFC News Story > 3919

Here are some pre-match thoughts from Alex Cisak - ASFC News Story > 3920

And here's a bit of Coley for you to listen to (some interesting thoughts in there about seeing similarities with the Conference winning season)

If you're not making the trip to Priestfield tomorrow I'd appreciate your company. If you're on Facebook, like this page Accrington Stanley | Facebook and you'll get match updates, if you're on Twitter (or just want to get the updates) go to Accrington Stanley (ASFCofficial) on Twitter or alternatively I'll be contributing here too.

Hopefully a bit more preview stuff to come

Dan

Re: Gillingham Thread

Morning all
Hotel room with a brew for me at the moment - off to Gillingham shortly and will be with you from Priestfield from 2 ish.

In the meantime, I've seen that there's a real mix of predictions for today's game. Given the importance of the game (a "Cup final" says Coley) what team would you pick if you were in charge?

Dan

Re: Gillingham Thread

morning Dan, expenses eh? must be with the bbc!

Given the importance of the game I'd stick with the winning team, although care must be taken to rotate a player or two (such as Jimmy Ryan keeps looking more and more injured/jaded). Better to lose a player for a game than for 3 or 4 as happened last year.

I'd also say that if a game is 'losable' then I personally think this is it! Ok so they occupy the place we want, but we have four games in hand on these monkeys so would still have ample opportunity to pull it around. Obviously we want to win as many as possible but this, for me, is chalked in the 'can afford to lose' column.

3-0 please to the Reds!

Re: Gillingham Thread

Morning Dan. It's going to be a tough game, this. We can beat anyone on our day, certainly in this league, but the Gills are more than capable of bringing an end to our unbeaten run at Priestfield. BBC are reporting that Akinfenwa is unlikely to start however, which a major advantage for us if true.
As far as the line-up goes, I wouldn't change much to be honest. I have a lot of confidence in our defence after their recent form. I just hope there is more cohesiveness in our forward play today than in recent games. But I'm sorry, Jimmy Ryan needs resting.

I'd go for:

Cisak
Winnard Edwards Hessey Jacobson
Procter Joyce
McConville Craney Putterill
Gornell

OK, but if Jimmy needs a rest then you need Charlie doing the creative stuff in midfield, assuming he's fit. Put Macca back on the bench where he's been for most of this recent good run.

That's the only reason I went for Putterill instead. Barnett's ace. McConville has to start for me.

Re: Gillingham Thread

I tend to disagree with Macca on this one lose this and I fear the gap will be too big to pull back even with games in hand, a win or draw and we are right in the shake-up for the play-offs.

Re: Gillingham Thread

It's a warmish, overcast day here in Kent. A smattering of Stanley fans already in the uncovered scaffolding end of Priestfield. Players are just warming up.

Re: Gillingham Thread

John Coleman has named the same starting eleven that defeated Stockport in midweek for this afternoon's trip to Gillingham.

Stanley: Cisak, Winnard, Edwards, Hessey, Jacobson, Procter, Joyce, Ryan, Craney, McConville, Gornell

Subs: Dunbavin, Long, Lindfield, Putterill, Parkinson, Murphy, Smyth
