And so we continue is April, first up was a visit from Northampton, a team who we have never scored against and only managed one draw in our previous meetings!!!
A couple from Craney, along with Maccas’ 12 of the season put paid to that!!
A very good, strong performance from Stanley that gave us the victory we deserved!!
We were back in action at The Crown again with the first visit of Southend United and with it came one of our best performances of the season!!
At 1-1 and the ball bouncing back off the woodwork, many might have thought that it would not be our night, but Gornell and Sunbeds - with their 13th and 12th of the season respectively - had other ideas!!!
A very tough match, in which we showed some guile and determination, which saw us through to another valuable 3 points!!
Friday night footy at The Moss Rose next, a 2-2 draw with some poor officiating, plus a great strike from Proc, but a more than deserved point.
Back to The Crown and the first ever League visit of Oxford United, not a great spectacle, but with chances few and far between, it was a game we could have won if we had been a little more clinical, but another point gained and another clean sheet!!
Crown Ground again, 23rd April and a St. Georges Day battle of the
Roses!!
3 great goals from Luke Joyce – his first of the season and our
16th different scorer!! Proccy and Macca - netting his 13th of the season - it was all over by half time, another 3 points at the “Crown Fortress!!”
Bank Holiday Monday saw a very difficult away trip to high flying Shrewsbury, chances few and far between and on another day maybe Luke or Macca would have added to their tallies, but another away point gained, plus yet another clean sheet!!!!!
The final game of April was also the final League game at home this season! The visitors were struggling Barnet, not a classic by any means, both teams nervous for the points for different reasons and a terrible gale blowing through the stadium!! That being said, 3 FANtastic strikes from The Brazilian saw us score 3 goals at home yet again, Jimmy Ryan score his first ever hat trick (and reach double figures!!) and the Stanley guarantee themselves 5th spot and a Playoff place for the first ever time!!!!
At the end of April, we have now scored
80 goals from
50 games so far this season – compared with
79 from
57 last season
Not bad for a team that lost it 50 goal striking firepower in the closed season!!!!
