Gordon Shurmer ...................
My Father Gordon passed away in the early hours of this morning after a being ill on and off for a few months. He lived in Goa but still always followed Stanley and I had to txt him the results after every game. He was even Club Man Of The Year in 1982 for his help with the ground that year.
People might remember him for running Plantation Street Chippy with Joyce years ago and he even did some catering for a short time at the ground on match days.
I thought I would just mention his passing away on here as he had many friends who attended games and who might visit the forum.
Rest In Peace

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
Sorry to hear that. I lived two doors away from the chippy on Plantation St for a few years, some years back.
He was a nice chap and always had time for a chat. I wrote a letter once to a competition asking for people to write in and tell them about their favourite Chippy. I won it because I wrote a jokey letter from my cat explaining about the quality of fish in the chippy. Anyway, i won't ramble on, but suffice to say, very sorry to hear about your loss.
Best wishes

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
Shurm;
Sorry to hear this sad news.
I was privilidged to know your father and had the pleasure of his company on many a day.
For a short while Gordon was in the groundsman at the Crown Ground as it was in those days. He managed to work miracles with the clay and mud that was the "hallowed turf" in the early 80's.
He was a very proud father and Stanley fan when his son made his NWCFL debut at 15 years of age. (a record which I believe still stands to this day)
RIP Gordon, another Stanley unsung hero

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
Sorry for your loss at this time of year. I briefly met your father in the chippy many years ago when I lived in Stanley Street and had friends who lived in Plantation Street. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
sincere condolances, Shurm. The fact that I didn't personally know your dad hardly matters - he is one of the Stanley family. Best wishes.

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
Shurm, very sorry to hear about your dad. I knew him quite well from many years back. We grew up around the same time and were both Stanley mad. I grew up on Bold St and Plantation St although I think it was the dance halls that we spent most of our time "socializing". Deepest sympathy to you and your family. Bryan.

Re: Gordon Shurmer ...................
very sad to hear this news Martin, your dad was one of the old school good guys. I'll never forget as a 6 year old busking outside the chippy (before it was done up) and your dad gave me 5p to move outside the newsagents!!! Incidentally they gave me 10p to move back!
Deepest wishes to you and your Mum, and the rest of the family.
