Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

I think a roof would make the club visually more proffesional. Folk already see us as a "little" club done well-how patronising.
Lets give them that we're a club going places and show a real intent. I agree with willie miller (cheers jase) about getting punters and KEEPING them!!!!
The roof would make the stanley experience more enjoyable. i'm sick of getting p***** wet.

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

I agree with almost everything that has been said. I would love to be under a roof, I would love to be able to hear the Ultras singing but it isn't going to happen just yet. Alright we have been promised a roof in the past but now the Club has come out and told us that we are not getting it at the moment. With the future segregation in place we may attract more casual supporters into the seated area, they won't miss the first ten minutes of the first half, the last ten minutes of the first half and the first ten minutes of the second half with people walking past them. If everybody feels so strong about the roof why not form a 'Raise the Roof' Committee to find out how much we need for the roof and maybe organise fund raising activites, have 'Roof Raising' bucket collections at matches, etc., anything to raise money for a roof.

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

I've got the perfect solution to your roof problems.

Play all your games at our ground....NOTE: Full cover at BOTH ends and we'll transfer all the Rover Reserve games to yours.

OK?

Didn't think so!

Seriously, it's bloody criminal that a club about to return to the league hasn't thought about the welfare of its younger and therefore fans of the future.

Bet that a few corporate deals are of more concern!

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

I am led to believe by financial peers that for something to be a success in business it needs to viable, necessary and profitable.

The improvements to the corporate side were viable, necessary and have become profitable.

Mr Morton states that the roof is URGENT BUT NOT ESSENTIAL. I beg to differ. I think that it is viable and we assume the money is there, it is necessary to appease existing fans and welcome and keep new fans, therefore making it profitable. As I mentioned in an earlier post it would pay for itself anyway within a rapid timescale so even if it has to be ripped down at some future point it won't have been a waste of time.

Jeff posted "Are we all getting soft or is there a core of new supporters who are not used to braving the elements." Yes Jeff, there is. And we are hoping for more. And we would like to keep them please.

The club is top of the league, winning regularly and playing attractive football. We are playing League football next year. Does this deny us the opportunity to express our distaste for the lack of certain things? Are you only allowed to have opinion when things are going bad on the field, because when we are winning we are told by certain members of this forum that we are top of the league, what more do you want?

I'm one of the few fans that has braved the elements at crap holes such as Bootle, Frickley, Nelson, Winsford etc and I'll still be watching Stanley if we ever go back to them days. Unfortunatley the club cannot bank on too many fans remaining loyal if they continually ignore our wishes. I dont care which level of football we are playing next year, but I'd like to be behind the goal and under a roof. I would also, like Willie Miller, like a statement from the club that is not full of spin and carefully worded phrases, as to what the estimated schedule of works is in relation to this roof.

Few things stir up the ire at the IES, the roof is one of them, they shouldn't push it.

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

Didn't Ilyas Khan donate some money to go toward, if not pay outright for, the Clayton End roof ? The condition being that it be called the Sophia Khan stand for three years after completion. If this is so, what's happened to this dosh ?

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

ok, few answers to some questions. The police control tower is to be situated over the coppice end toilets. The first aid room is where the kit room is now and is currently being boarded out for the purpose, will have 2 beds and toilet facilities.

There will be toilet facilities on all sides of the grounds along with the new turnstiles.

the bar facilities behind the coppice and clayton end in the interim may only be of a porta cabin level but I'm sure there are some nice portable bars out there!!

No mention of ground sharing next year and they are hoping to make improvements to the outside of the ground. CCTV company chosen who are now in discussion with the police about citing of cameras.

Parking issues around the ground being looked into including a meeting with local residents at the end of the month and discussions with accy cricket club maybe providing parking for away fans/coaches etc.. Sparkie also suggested looking into some waste land on ribblesdale ave and Rob said he will speak to the council about this.

The Ilyas Khan money was donated to sponsor (name the stand) not to pay for the roof!!

Think I covered a few more things there

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

"Accrington Stanley are delighted to announce a naming rights deal for the Clayton End covered terracing. For three years after it is completed the covered terracing will be known as The Sophia Khan Stand,....."

It would appear that the money from Ilyas Khan was in fact to name the COVEREDTerracing after his mother, and not the existing open end.

Re: Ground improvements meeting tonight

I wasn't to bothered about having a roof..It would be nice but i didn't think it would be essential until york away for acoustic purposes...It was amazing, i know there wasn't that many of them singing but imagine what we would sound like, it would be absolutely electric...

You've spoken a lot of sense in this post Macca , and I can tell that you've delivered it from the heart.

Words like "viable" are, though, indicators of a long-term (or at least medium-term approach) , which is an option unavailable to ASFC at this time.

I've often said (and been given lots of criticism for my trouble) that the Clayton End Roof, the elimination of that awful mud , the improvements in toilet facilities have always been key factors in the success of our Club.

But you've got to remember that management is a dynamic ; one day you realise that a particular problem needs to be dealt with immediately , but in the afternoon another event impacts upon your earlier decision. It doesn't mean that your earlier decision was wrong (unless you work for Hearts, of course) , it just means that you have to accept the change which has taken place and to re-plan accordingly.

That's where I believe that ASFC are at the moment making the correct decisions, however unpalatable they may be.

You may not remember that I sold many hundreds of poundsworth of tickets to raise that Clayton Roof .

In my capacity in the Supporters' Club I helped to make a £1,200 donation to ASFC as result of the fantastically hard-working Members . . . for the toilets in the Clayton End development.

You and we have ALL invested so much of ourselves into this wonderful football club called Accrington Stanley.

It will be right soon , and when it is . . . you'll forget there was ever a problem.

As a long-range non-attending supporter I haven't got a vote on this - but every time I read a message about the roof I remember sitting with my Dad in the "new stand" at Peel Park watching an FA Cup replay against Preston (L 0-4), not too long before we went bust for reasons not entirely unconnected with the cost of buying the thing.

But lightening couldn't strike twice, could it ?
