Hartlepool match thread

our record against Jeff Stellings beloved Hartlepool (played 3 lost 3)
unfortunately Saturday's brilliant win against Chesterfield didn't see us progress up the league table and with the close points proximity it's beginning to look like at least 51 points will be needed for survival again this year

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Same for me,except stay with Webber, as long as he doesn't take any penalties!

I haven't had a proper look but somebody might want to check out the two-weeks' free trial on 'Pools Player' that includes commentary on tonight's match:

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Good to be unbeaten but tonight's results have just made things even tighter. Stanley's game in hand on both Pompey and Mansfield now looking critical.
Rochdale will be smarting after letting their lead slip at Torquay.
Tranquillisers, anyone?

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Maybe we were all wrong in advocating sticking with Saturday's line up as some looked a bit leg weary after their heroics at the week end, especially Webber who faded badly. Can't complain about the subs again though. I thought Windass was great up to the penalty area but was woefully off target with at least 4 shots. New mon very good again as were all the back 4, and Joyce deserved his mom with an all action show. Next two games are must wins or we could be right back in the relegation zone.

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Typical play well n win on Sat, never move position, Play much poorly tonight n draw n move UP, as Jimmy Greaves used to say "Its a funny old game" Hartlepool wouldn't have scored if we played till midnight, We should have marmalised em.

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Quite deflating tonight after the euphoria of Saturday!
Difficult to follow that I suppose.
Clearly "Pools" were happy to get a draw right from the start. However, we seemed to lack the guile to unlock thier defence. I was disappointed that Naismith got hardly any ball apart from in the first minute that he was on the pitch and for his late run for which he got booked for "simulation", (according to the ref.)
Defence was very strong again with Deano somewhat in the wars...as brave as ever! "New bloke", Adam Buxton, had another cracking game and JB will have a difficult decision to make when Hunt is available again.
We will need to raise our game for Saturday at Rochdale.
Come on you Reds

Re: Hartlepool match thread

Think both defences played well tonight and the keepers were never really tested.
They played three at the back with a extra man in midfield and this, together with a bobbly surface, ensured you never got a second touch!.
Agree about MoM to Joycy,he covered a lot of ground and put in a good shift.
For me it was a solid performance but lacked penetration in the final third.
Take a point,and move on !!

4 points from the last two games was what I hoped for, but didn't expect them this way round. Four more from the next two will move us up significantly, I hope!

Re: Hartlepool match thread

I think 3 wins and 2 draws from 11 games will see us safe and looking at the fixtures,is achievable !!!!

Re: Hartlepool match thread

no goals but another good performance from the reds, a clean sheet and our players commitment to quickly close the opposing players down giving the opposition little time to construct attacks, at times it seemed like a game of heading ping-pong, personally I would have liked to have seen the ball on the ground more, for me the only negatives of the night came from the wins of the cobblers & gulls (Oh! cobblers)

Can't say much more than this fair summary. Think the huge effort against Chesterfield on Saturday meant that we lacked the mental sharpness needed to create the winner.

The attendance last night was terrible. I know there was Champions League on the telly and the away support had a long way to travel but I reckon there was under a thousand home supporters on the ground.
