Indeed. Whoever thought one day we would be so spoiled as to no longer find league football a novelty. What a time to be alive.

Re: Has anyone seen Hobby and Liz recently?

30 years ago stanley reserves' promotion enabling them to play division one a teams and beat Burnley reserves (2-1 home early doors) was a big novelty and the most exciting thing for several years.

We got a couple of hundred on those games against the bigger teams.

I'm not sure that some of the new fans who joined this century have any appreciation of the privileged position we are now in. However I assume most fans are grateful to see us move into year 12 in the league in the modern era.

Most hard core fans are it's just that there aren't that many of them in terms of league club gates in general. That's modern football unfortunately.

I'm completely envious of those fans who have been there for decades.

I have watched non-league before (guiseley and Stockport both on a few occasions) and found it quite depressing. The very rare occasions I saw Stanley in non-league I also found pretty gloomy if I'm honest.

But the best years I had watching Leeds were not the two title wins - it was the old div 2 years of mediocrity and most of all the promotion year of 1989. You do need the lows to appreciate the highs.

Is there anyone here who was at the first game at the Wham in 1970?

Another name from the past. I think he was called Vic Hallam? He had an advertising board around the ground. Vic Hallam Dairyman. He wore a Stanley cap with quite a few Stanley badges on. I heard that he decided to stay away while "that man(JC)remains the manager".

Vic Allonby - Works in a well known supermarket in town!

I was actually thinking the other day about people who don't come to the games anymore. Maybe outpriced, maybe don't like the rules off Football League stadiums, like standing there with a beer on the terrace, Maybe just settled down with family

Albert, Willow Mount, Diesel, Mik Griff...All regulars, home and away!

Not quite the first game at The Crown - was 1975 when I started going so a bit of a latecomer

Yes

But I should add, that was the last time until the promotion sealing game at Woking. I blame the Navy for that failing.

I was talking to Vic a couple of weeks ago. He stopped going to Stanley about 15 years ago due to giving up his milk delivery business and having to "tighten his belt" financially. He's never been since.
