Having a go at Stanley again
I don't know whether anyone has seen Nigel Clough the Derby Managers comment on the BBC sports website.
He was commenting on the recent arrival of Sven-Goran Eriksson at Notts County'
He said "I would like to see Sven at Accrington Stanley on a wet Tuesday night, see if fancies going up there to watch his team"
I'm personally getting a bit fed up with these sort of attacks not just on Stanley, but it seems to me Accringon as well.
I would have included the link, but I haven't quite mastered the art of doing that.

Re: Having a go at Stanley again
Come on, Bernard, you should be used to it by now! Stanley have been the butt of third rate comedians' jokes since I were a lad. Now, as the smallest club in the league with the smallest gates, we're used as a handy metaphor for the poverty-stricken side of football. I take a sort of peverse pride in it now. I hope that our basic facilities make Sven and his team feel thoroughly unsettled when they come up here and I hope that's reflected in their play...and if the delightful Nancy comes along she's welcome to a light ale in the Oaklea with myself, Cashy, Yonmon and Alfred E. We might even push the boat out and treat her to a bag of prawn cocktail flavoured crisps. ![Wink](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

If the chippy's open, you could always buy her a bag of chips as well. But then again that might be spoiling her.

Not sure about that Mr H. Cashy didn't stay in the Oaklea for a drink last night. I suspect he wasn't used to being surrounded by a large contingent of intellectual fans and felt out of place ![Big Grin](http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

It's here: BBC - BBC Sport: Paul Fletcher: Clough times at Derby
Me, I'd like to see Sven slumming it at Burton!
Cloughie's got it wrong as well; we play County on a Saturday!

Sod that for a game of soldiers, Bernard. Believe me, these Latin girls like a bit of luxury, so if she does feel a little peckish, it's down to the Abbey Friar for cod, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter AND a pot of tea...and no expense spared!

They did last night against Burnley - only the ref and his assistant on the stand side spoiled it.

Re: Having a go at Stanley again
I know you can get a touch to sensitive. And maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that a lot of these comments about Stanley are meant in derogatory way, and not meant to be complimentary.

I'm with Wynonie on this. Plus any mention of the club, no matter how derogatory, can be good for raising the profile.
