Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Thank you Sweet FA for that timely warning. We do not, at this stage, know the evidence in this case and speculation and innuendo are of know use to anyone; it is best to leave comment on what has simply been reported so far, which is that charges have been made. There is a well-tried and tested system of justice in this country and as such we must allow it to follow its course. Until then, I suggest people keep numb about what they think they know- remember, what is written on here is just as pertinent as written in a newspaper or broadcast on TV, so just remember the rules pertaining to libel and sub-judice.

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

As a more than interested member of this forum, I have to say that I am amazed at the way some of you have commented. Some of your remarks are at the very least immature, some are downright offensive and I cannot believe that they have merited a posting on the forum. I appeal to those who run this site to close the thread down immediately and let the appropriate authorities deal with it as it should be dealt with.

We do have a big game on Saturday, lets talk about that.

We are after all a small community who need to back each other when events such as these arise.

Yes lets not dicuss anything bad, god forbid someone using humor to lessen the impact, I'm sure a whispering campaign is a lot better.

Just to put the record straight- I (Keyco's dad) spoke to two club officials today & they acted by suspending the person straight away. They were unaware that this had been ongoing with the police since November, suggest the police take the rap for their communication in this regard as most people know the ID of "Stan". They are as disgusted as all sensible fans & would rather the club was not involved in matters as this as it is extremely bad publicity all round. They have taken appropriate steps with the information known at present & expect the law to take its course, the result of this will result in final action as appropriate. Rest assured that "Stan the monkey" is now RIP & a new mascot is inevitable as the comments of other clubs with this character would be most unwelcome. Remember it is the actions of a person rather than the character that will stand up in court & face the consequences. As with the club officials & true fans we are sorry that this incident has taken place & feel for the suffering of the victims & their familys. Especially with Eric being in hospital for the past week ill, I am certain this is the last thing he would have wanted to emerge too-get well soon Eric from us all.

Unhappy Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

I dont think a new mascot is inevitable - this is just my opinion of course and I hate to say this but I think that no mascot ever again is more inevitable. I hope Im wrong about that but this is what Im thinking and I have to say, its a shame coz it was a good way to raise local Google Page Ranking for the club and seemed to be working but putting things into perspective, I suppose its a small consequence...

And I beleive EW is on the mend and should be at the game on Saturday - but I agree, this is the last thing he would want to hear about when trying to recover..

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

It is a shame that the Telegraph chose to go with the headline they did.... Surely he is more famous for "weakest link" so "weakest link on sex charges" would have been much better, but as I have said before I dont think the telegraph is Stanley friendly..

All the best to Eric and family. Hurry up back

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Its a sad day all round, yeah the Telegraph led with an enormous headline and the rest of the story was a few lines but the club gets tarnished. I wonder what the headline would have been without the connection ? I feel sympathy for the families involved Ive typed loads of stuff and deleted it I really dont know what to say its just a shock.

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Just a quick note. The police cannot take the blame in their lack of communication to the club.Until a person has been charged with an offence their identity and the nature of the investigation have to remain secret. We now have the spectre of human rights hanging over us and rightly or wrongly this is the current status quo that the police have to abide by.
Before you make any critisims please put yourself in the position of a person accused falsley of such a matter.
I am both police officer and stanley fan and the protection of children is paramount but it has to be done within the law and disclosure of the investigation to the club at any stage before charge would have rendered any subsequent charge and court proceedings useless.
How would that look to the alledged victims and their families ?
There is no easy solution or panacea in these cases so i would urge all parties to bide their time and let proceedings take their course, before idle gossip and media attention taint the case before proceedings begin.
