Luke Joyce started so well with us, but like a few of the Team - Lees to name another - his form of late has been very poor, why, nobody knows, but from being a player that would have been one to stay at the turn of the year, I feel that there now must be a question as to if he stays or not??

I think the real question is "How" have players who "Were" playing decent football, degenerated back the Big Boot? makes me wonder if its been coached out of em, fer some unknown reason.

The answer here is a perfectly sensible and obvious one if you look at most of the players who's form has dipped considerably. For me those players are Tom Lees, Luke Joyce, Chris Turner, Micheal Symes, Bobby Grant, Billy Kee and Sean McConville, none of whom have completed a full season (which in this case includes two long cup runs) at first team level in any division. Most of the players mentioned have either spent the majority of their previous seasons out on sporadic loan spells (Symes, Joyce) or been playing youth academy or reserve football (max of 25 games per season). Based on the fact that we have now played in excess of 50 games this season, it is easy to see how these young inexperienced players can see their form fading in the face of a long hard season. Especially one where the pitches and weather have been as bad as this season.

I'm afraid chaps and chapesses it is not rocket science!!

A pattern with some of them , the two highlighted particulary Chris have been reduced to cameo roles from the bench which is maybe the reverse of what your saying in they may not have had enough game time to force the issues and have an impact?

Same could be said of the Gary King, John Mullin, Johnny Flynn all could maybe have been used more over the last month or so to alternate things around a little?

Re: Hereford Match Thread

The other thing in there is they are all bar one midfielders or attackers which could also hint at our possession and attacking style has changed?

Exclamation Re: Hereford Match Thread

I hear what you are saying Sparkie, but it is not just a few, as a matter of fact, who has played well recently??? Even the reliable ones - Phil springs to mind - have had poor games! Kempo, who was solid, has been all over the show in recent games, Phil has had some terrible games of late and has been responsible for more than his fair share of goals. Proccy and Miles have been with us for a good few seasons and have played plenty of games, so whilst much of what you say is true, I still think that something else is the issue! Listening to Jimmy Bell after the game yesterday, he admitted that he and Coley just do not know what is wrong and have tried everything they know/can to put it right, with the home defeat to Hereford being the result!! Sorry to be negative, but ???? This is still our best season ever and we must not lose sight of that, but it would be nice to get a win again sometime this season, against Crewe would be nice for more than one reason

Apart from the fact that it's your 'hood, Val, would also be nice to get a win there as a point of honour - the last time we played at Gresty Road, we were beaten 4-0 in a snowstorm; it was March 2nd, 1962 and it was the last match before we went on our little "leave of absence" from the football league. We have unfinished business there!

One thing they could have done is to have shown more faith in Chris Turner, especially after his performance at Torquay. Too often they have preferred McConville to him.

I would also like them to decide who is the preferred goalkeeper. Both Bavs and Boozer have failings but I see little point in dropping one in favour of the other for a few games, and then reverting back.

Re: Hereford Match Thread

I do not n never have bought "Played too Many Games" crap, thats just making excuses to me, ok stanley only have a small squad, is using it too much to ask? it seems that way to me. people in it have hardly had a kick, using subs earlier than the last few mins also wouldn't do any harm,

Re: Hereford Match Thread

Everybody seems to be missing the main reason why things have gone pear shaped - THE PITCH !! - Since feb the coaching staff have obviously decided to play the game in the opposions half ( rightly so ) by getting the ball forward and hunting mistakes, unfortunatley they have not got the personnel to play this way
The team has good players on the ball ,but when the opposition have the ball are not as effective ( who are the ball winning competitive midfielders in midfield with a physical presence ? which forwards are consistantly giving centre halfs a physical battle ? , Its these areas that if not addressed just invites pressure and will end up fighting a uphill battle.
If the pitch was half decent i am sure Acci wouldnt have to play this way and would easily pass there way through and around teams.
Someone also mentioned about the more experienced players standing up and taking the lead which is a valid point , but even these are subject to a dip in form

Re: Hereford Match Thread

sorry mate don't buy that either. the pitch is crap, but same fer all the teams, are ya saying that all the other sides especially those at the bottom end have players to play n we aint? also as fans have said "Away" performances have been very poor of late, are those pitches crap as well? like tiredness, the pitch is just another excuse to me.

Re: Hereford Match Thread

Yes,the pitch does need attention, but we have hardly had any rain in the last few weeks, resulting in a very lively dry pitch.During this dry spell, how often have the team trained on the pitch,to get used to it? to improve there first touch and passing. As has been said, the away sides seem to be able to find there men a lot easier, and yes we do need some ball winners who can pass the ball and get our wide players involved.
