Re: history

Hi xaccy.

The present ground is behind the Crown Pub in Whalley Road but is accessed from Livingstone Road.

The origins of the name "Stanley" are a bit open to debate. The club was formed as Stanley Villa in 1891, and the theory goes that it was so named because the originators lived on Stanley Street. There's another school of thought that the club was formed in the old "Stanley Arms" pub in that same area. I believe there may have been another team created round about the same time but I'm not too sure of my facts about that. They added the town name in 1893.

Perhaps someone else has more detailed information.
