Holy S*** !!!!!!!!!!!

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=629 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=3>Robins handed 18-point deduction

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top width=416><!-- S BO --><!-- S SF -->Altrincham have had 18 points deducted by the Conference and been fined £1,000 for fielding an ineligible player earlier in the season.
The club are waiting to receive the decision in writing before deciding on an appeal to the FA.
The ruling would put the Robins bottom of the Conference and would almost certainly mean relegation.
The player in question, James Robinson, made 13 appearances for Altrincham this season, scoring four times. <!-- E SF -->Robinson, 23, signed for the Moss Lane club from Accrington Stanley last November when he did not have international clearance. The 23-year-old and Altrincham have both been fined by the FA.<!-- E BO -->

Re: Holy S*** !!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch!! I'm sure they'll lodge a succesful appeal though, as the FA said they had done nothing wrong.

They may still stay up. Canvey are considering quitting the Conference (because of the whole Jeff King issue) and Scarborough may be thrown out if they cant solve their administrational problems. Still OUCH!!!

He scored a few for 'em, and Alty fans think they'd have struggled without him

"Newly-crowned Conference champions Accrington and the player were charged by the FA, but have not yet been dealt with"

what does that mean, we may still get points deaducted?

Re: Holy S*** !!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose the Conference are only following their rules in docking points from Alty. It's harsh and it's a shame that Accy, albeit also unknowingly, contributed to the problem. I just hope that Alty can succeed in their appeal and have the Conference's decision rescinded.

Re: Holy S*** !!!!!!!!!!!

might be being a bit naive here but dont the FA/Conference have some sort of responsibility for checking the registration/eligibility of players when they get paperwork????
i am presuming that they would have relevant records to check players last registered club etc etc. accy and alty both signed this player in good faith....should clubs really be expected to contact every country to check what they are told by players signing for them??
hopefully their appeal will be successful but i have my doubts sadly
