How Long can Paul Mullin Continue?

There seems to be a bit of discussion going on as to how long Paul Mullin can carry on, My personal view is at this level I think another season or two as a Striker and then I think possibly another couple of seasons as a centre back. The amount of running that Paul gets through per game is amazing as is his work rate if he can stay fit and with Roscoe Dsane in tandem I think they will wreak havoc among League Two defenders this season. As for Paul as a centre back in future seasons you only have to see him when he comes back to defend set pieces to know how well he reads the game the guy is a legend and long may it continue!!

Couple of years with us... maybe another in a lower division - I have to say hopefully not with us.

Mullers wouldn't go to any other club after us.
I don't want to speculate about how long he's got left, but he's a smart bloke and will quit when the time is right.

One thing I omitted to mention is the player/coach role that we have struggled to fill maybe he is the man?

Agree with you shakermaker - PM will know when the time is right.

Pendle Red, I think you may have point there about the player/coach role, but not for a couple of seasons yet, however, he may just go back to his day job, only PM knows.

Re: How Long can Paul Mullin Continue?

there was an interview in one of the local papers a couple of weeks (tried to find the link honest) where Paul mentioned that he thinks he has two or three years left in him at this level. He goes on to say that he may go into coaching and has considered doing his badges but won't start until after he finishes. He also says that he wouldn't be the same kind of manager as Coley cos 'I am not a shouter and bawler' or words to that effect.

My personal opinion is that when he does retire he should be guaranteed a testimonial and I hope that people respect what he has done for the club and turn out in their thousands. I always remember Jamie Speare's (why did he have one after four? years) when there was only about 400 people there and it seemed a real shame.

I also think that we should honour his acheivements by retiring the number 10 shirt for one season. To manage ten years at one club in this day and age is remarkable especially when you consider that he has consistently performed at the top of his game, has scored bucket loads of goals and has played practically every game in the time he has been here.

Long live the king.

Re: How Long can Paul Mullin Continue?

I definitely agree about PM deserving a testimonial. One of the the most impressive things about him is the way he's managed to adapt and improve his game as we've progressed up the leagues. When he first signed he was pretty poor in the air, definitely nowhere near the feared target man he is toay!

A coaching role could be a good idea. Not sure he'd have the pace to play centre-half though Pendle Red...

Mully is a bit like Dr Who, he regenerates himself every season and like others have said, he'll know when it's time to call it a day, can't see it being for at least another couple of seasons though and yes of course he should have a testimonial when that happens but let's not think about that yet
