How's it going?
First off I'll introduce myself...my name's Stephen and I'm an alcoholic only joking...I'm a student (I know, I know). But as things happen I may be going to college in Liverpool next year. I'll need my fix of football and I think that Accrington Stanley would be a good choice of team to support...I was just wondering what the fans are like and would I fit in?
I'm a supporter of Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland and I just feel I'd fit in better at a team like Accrington Stanley because (no disrespect to your team but) its smaller compared to Liverpool and Everton. I think it'd be similar to what I experience here in Ireland and I prefer that more intimate atmosphere compared to hype and somewhat muted atmosphere of the Premiership.
Anyways I was just wondering what its like being a fan of Accrington Stanley? All help and any info would be greatly appreciated

Re: How's it going?
I hope you've got a car. It's a couple of hours on public transport from Liverpool to Accy. Although, I suppose you could always cadge a lift with one of the team!

Ha ha...nope I don't have a car and I realise its a bit of a trek but thought that public transport would suffice, didn't know it'd be a couple of hours away though Ah sure what can you do? I've followed my team all over the place in Ireland and its worth it every time. I'm sure it'll be the same with Accrington Stanley!

Ha ha...thanks. I like to do my fair share of at matches with regard to bringing a great atmosphere and colour at matches both home and away. My club, Shamrock Rovers, have an ultras group too and I love what they bring to the club...delighted to hear Accrington Stanley have an ultras goup too. Unfortunately due to time constraints on my side over here I haven't helped as much as I'd like to but help whenever I can.

Re: How's it going?
Steve, believe me, you'll love it. Stanley is just your sort of club! Cracking atmosphere on the Clayton End, passionate, noisy support from the Ultras and the team is currently playing its best football since we returned to the league (today's result notwithstanding).
Also, I know everyone says this about their club, but Stanley fans are the friendliest you'll come across. As the song goes, "Consider yourself one of us..."

Re: How's it going?
second what wynonie says ya will love it, i returned after 40 odd yrs, n consider it the best move i ever made, its football like it used to be, n i can now "Stand Up" at a match, which makes fer more craic than sitting like a dummy. the fans are summat else good humoured n well noisy fer so few, most credit fer that goes to the "Ultras" no crap ya will love it.

Re: How's it going?
You'd not regret it pal....football as it should be. For one, you're not going to be paying through the nose to watch a load of plastic primadonnas in a plastic stadium, in a plastic league with plastic fans.. (forgive me if i've over used the 'plastic' prefix!!)
Good craic in a stadium, where you've got a choice to sit or stand, prawn sandwiches aren't on the menu, (it's local fodder round here) not exactly ram jam packed, but you'd find plently of friendly folk to share the banter with, plenty of local hostelries to spend the student loan in and what's more you'd be able to tell all your mates, and even the grandkids (if of course you're planning on them!!!) that you know EXACTLYwho Accrington Stanley are!!!
Hope that sways it.

Re: How's it going?
I think Accrington Stanley is the team for me (aside from the Super Hoops, that is Rovers!). Everything that I've heard on this forum has been great...I know you lot are biased and if i talked to a bury fan, leyton orient fan, hartlepool fan, etc... they'd all be bigging up their clubs but from what i've seen on youtube and heard on this forum...the Accies seem to be a great club and what you's are saying is the truth. I shall hope i get accepted to college in liverpool as so my affair with Accrington Stanley can begin
As I've already mentioned...primadonnas, plastic stadiums, etc.. aren't for me! I like real football and real fans...the majority of those who support big Premiership teams are only glory hunting...real football has real emotions. The club I support at home, Shamrock Rovers, are the most successful club in Ireland ( I won't go into details) but I've never seen them win a trophy apart from our Division 1 trophy, in our first year in Division 1 after our relegation due to a points deduction and getten beaten in a playoff with a franchise club who went bust the next year. I've seen the whole squad transfer listed, examinership, the fans buying the club, relegation, promotion, and we came 2nd in the Premier Division this year with a new manager, new squad, new stadium (after 21 years of homelessness) and all with half the budget of Bohs who won the league...its Europe next season for us! That's real football...not paying millions of pounds/euros in transfer fees and wages and inevitably hitting the real fan in the pocket!

Re: How's it going?
As others have said you sound right up our street, although no flares allowed in UK fella.
Loads come across from Liverpool mate, Scouse Dave (DAV007) is a regular. I am sure someone will give you a lift. Stanley Ultras Hotel is still taking bookings, although you must go home eventually ....
We try to support the team vocally & visually with flags & banners. Have a look at Stanley Ultras for more info....
We tend to look for Sligo Rovers results though as they are red & white & have connections with Accy.
Glad to have you on board..... you will enjoy the "craic"
