Important Things.....
We all know the mess we are in & it is important & proper to debate what has gone wrong. I am as gutted & dismayed as everyone else. The club have handled things in a shocking way but now we don't have the safety net of Illyas....
Therefore, it is very important that as supporters, we do EVERYTHING that WE can to raise as much cash as possible in the next 23 days. The tax man may just be sympathetic if we can raise over a third etc etc
I don't know about everyone else but if the worse happens I want to say that at least the SUPPORTERS did as much as they could.....
Therefore.... Sponsor the walkers, buy a legends match ticket, buy a wristband, attend the halloween function etc etc
Most of the good things about Stanley is centred on the supporters, lets not let Coley & Jimmy & the lads down!

Re: Important Things.....
I am sure that we as supporters can take that thermometer up to £150k
so I'll echo Willie's words and say let's all make that final push and do what we can.
When you read back the newspaper cuttings and the various books written on the demise of 62 do you not feel the despair that was felt by all those who were present? does it not make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you see the picture of the crestfallen fan sat in the ruins of the main stand? does it not bring a lump to the throat when you see the tombstone of Accringtons coat of arms planted in the centre circle?
What about when you read reports of how the townfolk of Accrington had to be dragged kicking and screaming back to having a town team again? it took nearly 40 years of fans such as Jack Barratt and all who have followed him, having to bleed for the cause, for the right to say that Stanley are a force to be reckoned with. Remember the humble beginnings when The Crown was no more than a clay field with a wooden shed? Remember how we had to humble ourselves with the Milk advert in order to get cash to kick on?
Above all else remember the good times. Remember trying not to rush Grimmy, remember Paul Beck and his FA Cup heroics, remember the immense pride we felt when we thought that Aldershot and the Conference was as good as it gets, remembe rthe adrenaline when Elliot saved not one but two penalties to preserve the title triumph at Woking, remember how you felt as you walked up to Chesters ground for the first game back in the League and the Sky cameras were picking everyone out.
Remember that we have 23 days left to keep those memories alive.
Forget Khan, Whalley, O'Neil or any of the board members who may or may not have been able to do things different. The time will come when people have to answer their consciences. Now is all about the next three weeks and what we as fans can do to ensure this money is reached.

Re: Important Things.....
If I could support the Reds when Whalley was running the show, I can support them when anyone is in charge.

I remember all of those things, even '62. The problem is not geeing up the supporters. I'm sure all of us will continue to support the fundraising drive in any way we can, regardless of our views on the club administration, because we desperately want to have a football league club to watch at the end of all this. I sometime still sit there in the pub watching the league tables come up on Sky Sports News every few minutes, simply exulting in the fact that Accrington Stanley, yes, ex-North West Counties League, butt-of-every-third-rate-comedians-joke Accrington Stanley are there in division two...and, yes, I know I'm a very sad man, but I'm sure all of us in our own way, love this feeling of being up there with the big boys, rubbing the likes of Crewe Alexandra's faces in it.
It's not the supporters that are the problem, it's keeping the fundraising going in the outside world, in Accrington and in the football world at large. People aren't stupid and they can see that the Stanley board have slammed the door on a man who had the funds and the will to solve the club's financial problems. The goodwill that abounded at the start of this whole saga is now starting to slip away, thanks to the antics of the board. And that's going to prove a real problem...

I was going to post about this a few days ago. You are right ( unfortunatley ) Mr H. This has been an issue on our board, the question being asked "Why have Accrington Stanley got the begging bowl out when money is available".
I would suggest that if Owen Coyle/Barry Kilby made the same offer this week that was made a few weeks ago the attendance would be at least 50% down. I beleive the game against Rovers is planned for the 13th October, my guess is that very little will be made from that game, be lucky to cover the cost of the floodlights

Sorry, Willie, but as others have said, the tax man is NOT going to be sympathetic. That's just not the way of HMRC. And let's suppose for a fanciful moment that he was, in view of the fact that we may have raised a third of the debt, he would obviously wonder how and when the remaining two-thirds of the debt would be paid. More bucket collections, wristbands, car boot sales? In no way am I decrying these important events; I am simply trying to look ahead especially from the point of view of HMRC. From their point of view, it would be difficult to see how any future debts could be paid. So.......?
It seems to me that we have only two realistic possibilities. Either we take David O'Neill at his word and assume that he will live up to his vague promises and produce the money by the deadline (and more soon after it); or as much pressure as possible is put on O'Neill so that he goes and we call on Ilyas Khan at the 11th hour.
I know what my choice would be.

This thread need to be pinned to the top of this board, as this post sums up the situation better than any post arguing about who said what about who ever could. At the end of the day, if the money's not there come the 28th there won't be a Stanley to argue about. It doesn't matter if you can't stand the current directors, or indeed anyone else; all that matters is saving the club.

He was sympathetic with Hyde.... and they had already been wound up.
Illyas has gone, & with it our only hope of a benefactor coming in.
I would rather concentrate on raising as much as I can & crossing my fingers than throwing the towel in with the fund raising & having a witch hunt!
The witch hunt will come if we don't survive believe me

I don't know what happened at Hyde, Willie. Was the bill paid? Or was the period for payment extended? I can't comment properly because I don't know how Hyde circumstances differed from ours. We have to remember that we have already had one stay of execution.
I'm not suggesting a witch hunt. As you say, that will surely come. All I'm doing is trying to see the most realistic way of raising over £200,000.

Re: Important Things.....
Hyde had already been wound up & had a week to appeal. The judge had said at the winding up hearing that they were wholly insolvent.
They appealed and raised £35,000 out of a debt of £122k & the winding up order was rescinded... Thats just over a quarter....?
Clutching at straws but if we could get half?

Re: Important Things.....
We also need to look at other ways to spread the message - sites like Twitter could potentially help to spread the message out to people who may not have heard the trouble the club is is. If everyone here that has a twitter account keeps tweeting about the situation using the hash tag #saveourstanley, it could potentially get on the "trending topic" list of the most popular tags. But it need a lot of people doing this.
