Smile Inspiration

Going through the BBCi sports news, I noticed that you are pretty much promoted from the Conference to Football League 2, and I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate you on this success. But, I and my fellow supporters at Clydebank FC, as well as congratulating you, wanted you to know what an inspiration you are for us. I am just about old enough to remember when Accrington Stanley went out of the Football League back in 1962 and you had to start again at the bottom of the game and work your way back up to where you are now. We are just starting out on that course. Our league membership was sold by our last owners, and the club has been restarted, owned by a fans trust. We now play in the Scottish Junior Central League. In our first season we won promotion as champions. Last season we came within five minutes of winning promotion again. This season we have reached the quarter final of the Scottish Junior Cup and are in the promotion mix again. If you want to learn more about us, our club website can be found at http://www.clydebankfc.co.uk/. The United Clydebank Supporters Trust is at http://www.bankies.net/, and the fans forum - come and leave us a message is at http://bankiesforum.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi It would be good to hear from you. It might take us a long time to get back to the Scottish Football League, but your success is inspiration to us to keep trying to do just that. Thank you and well done

Re: Inspiration

just a quick note of congratulations from another Bankies fan. i read soccer doc's post in our forum and also I recently heard AS mentioned during a phone in on 5-Live talking about the potential return to the football league. I knew the club had been resurrected but I hadn't realised how well they were doing.

Good luck!

Re: Inspiration

This is what football is all about. What a beautiful game. What ever happens in the coming seasons it is the things like this that will have meant the most. We might not yet be Champions of the Conference but to a number of football fans out there we are champions of the struggle to be champions. To be the best at our level and to have the chance to take on teams from above our level and compete with them and beat them.

Not everybody has the chance to witness their team achieving a fraction of what the Stanley have done over the past 38 years. The level at which this has taken place is irrellevant. How many of us who have taken part in a sport have any medals or certificates to show that on a particular day we won our race, or indeed kept on winning race after race; it is a rare achievment for many at any level. In some ways the history of football in Accrington is more illustrious than many of those football teams that we wish our team to emulate.

In the mid-sixties what odds would have been given for a team from Accrington being on the brink of promotion to the football league in the lifetime of the supporters of the day. Let alone actually achieving that aim (which of course still remains to be done).

What could be achieved this coming weekend and in my opinion what has already been achieved, is on a par with Chelsea/United/Arsenal dominating, Liverpool winning five European Cups, Forest going from Division 2 to back to back European Champions, Wigan taking on the best in the Premiership, Wimbledon coming from obscurity to win the FA Cup, Hereford beating Newcastle, our old rivals Gretna in the Scottish Cup Final, Clitheroe in the FA Vase Final, Colne Dynamoes etc etc etc. It can happen! It can keep on happening. It can happen once every 50/100 years.

Lets enjoy the ride and enjoy the fact that, at the moment, Accrington Stanley and all those who have been involved over the years are an inspiration.

Come on you Reds

Talking Re: Inspiration

Found out yesterday one of my new neighbours played for Bradford City against Stanley in the 62 season! He remembers it well.

Also found out yesterday that Lesley (my partner) knows someone through work who knew George Rothwells son/family and recently went to Georges funeral when she was chatting to them about football and mentioned to them that there was an important game this weekend involving a certain team!!!

Small world...

Re: Inspiration

Thanks for your kind words, Soccer Doc and Scott. I've followed the fortunes of your club via your website since it was first set up as I think there are many similarities with our own story. I hope that we will be back in our rightful place very soon and that you lads won't be too far behind in achieving your own dream. Keep the faith!
