Re: Inspiration
This is what football is all about. What a beautiful game. What ever happens in the coming seasons it is the things like this that will have meant the most. We might not yet be Champions of the Conference but to a number of football fans out there we are champions of the struggle to be champions. To be the best at our level and to have the chance to take on teams from above our level and compete with them and beat them.
Not everybody has the chance to witness their team achieving a fraction of what the Stanley have done over the past 38 years. The level at which this has taken place is irrellevant. How many of us who have taken part in a sport have any medals or certificates to show that on a particular day we won our race, or indeed kept on winning race after race; it is a rare achievment for many at any level. In some ways the history of football in Accrington is more illustrious than many of those football teams that we wish our team to emulate.
In the mid-sixties what odds would have been given for a team from Accrington being on the brink of promotion to the football league in the lifetime of the supporters of the day. Let alone actually achieving that aim (which of course still remains to be done).
What could be achieved this coming weekend and in my opinion what has already been achieved, is on a par with Chelsea/United/Arsenal dominating, Liverpool winning five European Cups, Forest going from Division 2 to back to back European Champions, Wigan taking on the best in the Premiership, Wimbledon coming from obscurity to win the FA Cup, Hereford beating Newcastle, our old rivals Gretna in the Scottish Cup Final, Clitheroe in the FA Vase Final, Colne Dynamoes etc etc etc. It can happen! It can keep on happening. It can happen once every 50/100 years.
Lets enjoy the ride and enjoy the fact that, at the moment, Accrington Stanley and all those who have been involved over the years are an inspiration.
Come on you Reds
