So for Stanley's safety you are relying on Boston going bust ?

Re: January Transfer Target

no but when they have just sold one of their best players in elding to pay staff wages im sure the club isn't in the best shape at the moment

neither of us will be proved wrong or right till the end of the season, ill go back to trying to fill the minibus to all away games and keep having a laugh for as long as possible in this league and you lot can keep worrying over our league position, i know who will have more fun

i still think coley and the players will keep us up, if not then hey ho we will win the conference next year, it wasent that bad the first time around was it!

Re: January Transfer Target

Without wanting to be the 'doom merchant', not many teams go down then come straight back up, mainly because the conference is getting stronger year upon year - there are only 3 part time clubs in it now compared with 12 in 2004.

If we do go down can anyone confidently say we'd have the squad to come straight back up, or would we be the new Halifax/Scarboro/Exeter/etc...

You both sound like you couldn't care less whether we get relegated or not, in fact it sounds like you would prefer to get relegated. Just the attitude that is needed at the moment - no ambition, which is comparable with the Club. I, for one, have waited 44 years for a return to the league and I wouldn't like to see it spoiled in just one season, because if we get relegated I think it will be a hell of a long time before we return. Maybe that will satisfy you so you can stand up at away games and get wet at home games.

Re: January Transfer Target

I agree Jeff. It's great having a laugh along the way and enjoying it but who can honestly say they are enjoying it at the moment? Eric needs to give Coley whatever he can to survive this year and get in his number 1 targets in the transfer window. Can't help but think the club missed a big opportunity to get some loan players in from both Ipswich and swansea in the Roberts/Craney deals. Instead they just took the cash.

If you were Mannix would you choose Stanley over the other offers on the table? Hope he does but can't see it myself

Re: January Transfer Target

jeff, if you cant pick banter out from me being serious then i suggest you buy yourself a joke book or look up the word 'sarcasm' in a dictionary.

i've been waiting 14 years to see stanley in the league, so dont try and tell me it means any less to me. we all want stanley to stay where we are and, in time, progress up the leagues.

the situation is, we have no money, a **** ground and a first class manager. we have no money because we're always having to improve the ground and we have alot of part time supporters who come and go as they please. if we had a guaranteed crowd of 2500+ every home game we'd be laughing. sadly, we aint.

anyway, to finish, it's not all doom and gloom. with no money we've recently signed 2 quality players in mcgivern and whalley, so coley obviously knows what he's doing (if anyone still didnt know that).

Re: January Transfer Target

Isn't McGivern injured?? Quality players are no good to you if they're injured.

Re: January Transfer Target

ai he is, but you know what i mean. he was released from rochdale and playing non-league football when coley signed him. in the few games he's played (especially away to macclesfield) he looked by far our best player.

Re: January Transfer Target

I agree he's avery good player and good of Coley to look in the lower leauges and find a gem that no other managers were willing to take a chance on but all I'm saying is he's injured and quite seriously injured his ankle at that so he aint going to be able to help us get out of trouble no matter how much quality he has.

Wink Re: January Transfer Target

Jeff - I can certainly vouch for The Debonnaire's deep rooted feelings for Stanley - cut him open and he bleeds red (as the old saying goes)

Regarding new players, JC managed to bring in Alan Rogers who, by all accounts, is a bit of a 'big time charlie' so perhaps thats evidence of Eric putting his hand in his pocket and raising the amount we're able to offer in wages?

Then again maybe its just another example of the ol' scouse connection working wonders...

Whalley looks like he has potential, but right now we need ready-made quality, not ones for the future. Signing players from way down the ladder is ok when they can have time to improve and develop, but they are no good for now.

The McGivern situation is another matter. He could have been an excellent signing and Coleman should be credited for that, but his injury has been plain unlucky.

Re: January Transfer Target

I find it funny people say Eric and John dont have any ambition.

Would you like Eric to spend money that we may not have to stay in the league for another season and possibly end up like Telford, Canvey Etc Etc or maybe not even exsist??

Im not sayin there isnt problems...what football club doesnt have troubles??
yes we would all like a nice new stadium and top players and this and that, but for one reason or another it cant be at the moment.

It wont be the be all and end all if we did get relegated (not that i want it to happen) but maybe we have come too far too soon and dint really have time to build the stadium or attract as many fans as well all like but ya godda take the rough with the smooth.

Re: January Transfer Target

I agree with most of what you say Baldy but we didn't get in the Football league overnight. Eirc surely has been building towards getting there since he took over and we should have been ready for it not rushing round painting things and throwing up walls as the safety officers were looking round the place!

Don't think any club can say they get promoted too soon. You get the rewards for your effort and last season that was promotion. Eric has 22 days to give Coley the cash his 3 promotions deserves and keep us in this league.
