Liam Watson
Former Stanley player Liam Watson stepped down as manager of Southport FC, citing family and career reasons. Apparently he has been juggling too many balls and made the decision to quit knowing it would be too much with Southport going full time. I'm sure we all wish Liam the very best in his future plans.
On the flip side could be a nice quick return to management for Jim Harvey, Souhtport ain't that far away from morecambe and he has the needed experience as a full time manager at this level. Personally I think if Southport can get him it would be a good step forward for the club, and a nice way for Jim to get back into conference football.

Re: Liam Watson
That makes perfect sense, he would surley be loved at Southport, but it would be a step down from Morecambe and the quality of players

Re: Liam Watson
Paul Cook is one of the other shortlisted men, what do you reckon of his managerial potential?

Re: Liam Watson
I reckon Jim Harvey would be a good choice for Southport, after all he's had 10years worth of experience as a conference manager

Re: Liam Watson
correct as i only moved up here recently and have only been against tamworth, but the people that i have spoken to in the clubhouse and in town have said that he was overpaid and at times just a player who came on for last 30 mins or so to get his appearance money, and that he was,nt all that good when he came on, so i am only having my say on what i have been told,:engsmil:

Re: Liam Watson
Same old moaners.....face facts. When Cooky came to Stanley, he was 36 and in the twilight of his career. Despite the temptation to give it one more go at a league club(Of which I believe, many were interested), Cooky decided to join us. To do this was not only a huge drop through the leagues, but Cooky also had to face a huge drop in pay. He's no box to box player, which led to people causing him lazy. This was hugely unfair, as ask anybody, and they will tell you he was one of the greatest passers the Crown Ground/IES/FES has ever seen. Plus he has been a huge help to a quite youngish squad. There is no doubt he will become a great manager, and possibly go on to excell his glittering playing carreer.
Still think he's a donkey?

Re: Liam Watson
I think Cooky would make an excellent manager. All you need to do is look what the guy has done for Accy on the coaching side of things since he came not forgetting all his valuable contacts in the game.... Forget his playing career at the club If he does go for it and get it I wish him the very best of luck and Im sure he would do well

Re: Liam Watson
After spending the first 45 minutes chatting to Paul at Arnold last pre-season and seeing him encouraging the players, I'm a big Paul Cook fan. I still remember that scorcher he got at Chester.
I'd be sorry to see him go but it would be a good career move.
It would save him a bit on his petrol bill - or do they have a car share scheme?
