Line-up vs Aldershot
Perhaps this thread is a little premature (given that we have very few players actually signed on at the moment, and of course we're under an embargo which - unless it gets lifted within the next two weeks - will mean that we'll be starting the season with four first teamers and the YTS lads) but methinks it'd be nice to chew the fat on football for a change.
 How do you think we'll line up against the Shots on August 7th? I'll go for: Cisak Winnard Edwards Hessey Hall Procter Ryan Putterill Joyce McConville Lindfield |

Cisak Bateson Edwards Hessey Winnard Procter Barnett Ryan Putterill McConville Lindfield I like the idea of playing 4-2-3-1 even if it's enforced because we don't have enough strikers. We never gave Phil & Kempson enough protection in front of them with two of Proccy/Joyce/Ryan being our central midfield pairing and when we seemed to concede goals they always appeared to come from the middle of the pitch, not the wings. Plus, with five midfielders it will allow us to pass our way around the pitch rather than hoof it up to Mullin/Symes to hold up the ball and feed it off to his strike partner. |

I remember Coley trying out the two defensive midfielders in the last few games of last season. It seemed to work well then for the reasons Whalley Red mentions. Given the new signings made today (and presuming Lindfield/Boulding are still carrying knocks) I'll plump for:
Dunbavin Bateson Hessey Edwards Winnard Procter Joyce Ryan Putterill Barnett McConville Got the feeling Turner will be battling from the bench again this season and will be lucky to get 20 appearances. |
