Re: manager of season
when Bradford came knocking they claimed they were put off as we wanted half his remaining contract paid up - about two years. How much does Coley earn, who knows? could be £20k could be £50k could be £100k. If it was the highest of those figures then how many clubs would be put off by £200k compo? not too many I wouldn't have though, remember Scunthorpe aren't the most affluent but paid £170k for Alan Knill.
Many true words said Pendle Red, but surely there comes a time in a managers career when he wants to see how far he could go? If for example he had been offered the Scunthorpe job, and managed to keep them up, could he have done a Stanley and threatened a Premiership promotion push the following season? He'd be one season away from a job amongst the Elite and that would mean paper talk about England jobs every time one of the foreign wallies gets us knocked out of a tournament.
We all expect that Coley will go sometime but this summer will be the hardest it's ever been to keep hold of him. If he is not offered good jobs this summer on the back of his now noticed success at our club then he never will be. Could he do a Dario Gradi and stay at the same club for ever? maybe if it was a club that could pay him what he was worth and develop a player or two here and there.
