Match Details Thro' Letterboxes

Here's something we can all do to raise awarenes about the club and hopefully get a few more bodies into the ground.

Before the Darlington game I produced a simple match poster on the computer thus :-

THIS FRIDAY 11/09/09
ACCRINGTON STANLEY
V
DARLINGTON
K.O. 7.45pm
At the CROWN GROUND
Livingstone Rd, Acc. BB5 5BX
Adults From £13/15. Concessions From £8/10.
Students £5/6. U.12 £1/Redz Free

I felt this style was better suited for my purposes than the downloadable poster which I think had rather small print and was short on club detail. This is not a critism it just would not work in my car window.

The date was 48 point text the teams were in 72 point text the address in 48 point text and the other details in slightly smaller print. I printed this in black and white on A4 paper Landscape orientation.

I stuck one poster in the rear window of my car and one in each of the rear passenger windows. My logic being that I probably spend a good couple of hours each week sat in stationary traffic on my way to work or driving around town about my business, not to mention parking in areas with a good deal of public footfall. Many people stare at my car windows either consciously or sub-consciously

For this Friday's game I intend to do the same but I will also post one of these through every door on my estate, sooner rather than later, Monday or Tuesday is probably the best lead time as people can make arrangements etc.

I think if as many regular supporters of the club as possible did this it can not but help increase awarenes and attendences at matches.

Local people who do not get the local newspapers or come on the forum or official club site will not have the first idea about the club let alone when they play, where they play how little it costs to take your kids with you. This is the information that needs putting out there if we are ever going to increase the paying fan base at the club.

The team have played some cracking football in recent weeks and it has been good to watch. The more floating fans who witness good football the more that are likely to return regularly.

LETS GET THE WORD OUT THERE - ASK YOUR BOSS IF YOU CAN PRINT 50 LEAFLETS OUT ON THE WORKS PRINTER. WE CAN ALL WRITE, GET A MARKER PEN AND HAND WRITE SOME POSTERS, NONE OF US HAVE ANY EXCUSE NOT TO DO THIS! Ask your local corner shop keeper if you can put one in the window. Stick one in your own window.

LET'S GET PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE CLUB IT IS THE ONLY REAL WAY FORWARD WE WILL NOT SURVIVE FOR LONG IF WE RELY ON HANDOUTS WHENEVER THERE IS A CRISIS, people get bored and stop giving.

We need Accringtonians and Hyndburnonians (is that a word?) to take ownership in their local team and feel that they are part of it, to feel pride when it does well, to feel gutted when it doesn't do well, to give a pound to the weekly draw, all the things that we on this forum feel week after week.

COME HYNDBURN LET'S GET OUT THERE AND TAKE PART.

Re: Match Details Thro' Letterboxes

good post Mr Wotsit.

very true that if we all take continual responsibility for the progress of our club then it can only make progress. These posters are tinpot. Hand delivering them around your own street/estate is tinpot. However, until we have something more non-tinpot then let's get cracking

Cheers Macca, your scathing praise of my genius is much appreciated.
Seriously though, it is not that long since the good and the great of Accrington Stanley helped fund the club and raise awareness by simply knocking on doors and popping in corner shops with raffle tickets, weekly draw etc, something we are all capable of doing. Simple but effective there is nothing easier than shoving paper through a neighbours letter box. The most effective charity is performed by those that get others to act, you don't need pockets full of money to do that.

Re: Match Details Thro' Letterboxes

I'm hoping a couple of newbies turn up tonight. Met them at a bar in Adinkerche, Belgium. Both lived in Oswaldtwistle and I was encouraging them to come up to the Crewe match. It will there first visit ever to the Crown and I have let them know, they will be made most welcome. Just sending a reminder to them now on Facebook.
