Re: Match Thread FA Cup Round 1 v Bradford City
Nice to hear some positive publicity from the talking heads on the BBC FA Cup highlights programme earlier today. Credited as the most impressive victory of the first round, with Jordan's goal highlighted during the summary. Coley's tenure spoken of in glowing terms with a consensus that it is nothing short of a miracle that Accrington Stanley continually exceed all expectations on low gates & a shoestring budget.
I wonder if all those armchair Accy 'fans' paying a king's ransom to Sky to watch footie on their 42 inch HD TV sets were tempted to actually go & see a real 'live' game of football once in a while? Sadly, somehow I doubt it.

[QUOTE=Chrisr;1180788] Why can we not play much better in the league at home?
the problem is with stanley if a team plays football against us we do well but at home teams tend to put 9 men behind the ball, get in our faces and know we have a problem in defending set pieces so they know they,ll eventually get a chance to score. quicker movement when we have the ball would help.

Correct, therefore we need to come up with another formation, that we can alternate between.
I remember the other season when we beat top of the table Burton, we played 3-5-2.
Having, GTF, Kee, Gornell, Boco and Shay, plus, Omar, Matty P, Hughesy, Zak, etc. would be very easy to swap it around - just a thought..

If Clark isn't picked on the left it's a travesty.

Re: Match Thread FA Cup Round 1 v Bradford City
It was a great display from the Stanley on Saturday and we fully deserved our win! Enforced changes with both full backs injured had some of us worried at the start of the match but the rejigged formation worked pretty well. Sean Mac looked much more comfortable on the right and probably had his beat game of the season so far. Clarke was super on the left and his well taken goal capped a great performance. Terry put a real shift in and he got much better service with more passes played in to his feet than last week which enabled him to link up better with supporting team members. The defence looked pretty solid once more and Lacey did really well at right back. Seamus once again made the midfield tick and he was the hub of our good passing football. The 'Man of the Match' for me though was Romy Boco. His 'energy' and hunger were obvious from the start and he set the standard when he crashed a 25 yard shot against the woodwork early on. This seemed to instill total belief in the whole team that we could beat Bradford. A great move down the right and Sean found romy superbly at the near post for a cracking headed goal to put us deservedly in front.
When we were still the one goal in front after about ten to fifteen minutes in the second half Bradford started to put the pressure on and myself and those around me were looking for Coley to bring on some fresh legs. Bradford equalised and we feared the worst but the fresh legs came from players already on the pitch!!!!.....Rommy, Sean, Terry and Clarkey and the others who just rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in again!! The substitution came with Shay coming on and that helped too and we got the winner with that stunning goal!!!!......A very astute back header by Boco found Clarke who got a yard on his full back and slid his shot beautifully across the Bradford keeper for a truly worthy winning goal!
Of course we were all stunned into silence when Shay had the problem but the players nearby spotted that it was serious and waved for immediate action with both clubs trainers and the medics coming straight on.
It cast a cloud over a great performance and I am sure that we all hope and wish for Shay to fully recover.

Re: Match Thread FA Cup Round 1 v Bradford City
Sorry to sound pedantic but it reads as though the substitution happened before the winner - It didn't.
Also a big slap on the back to the fourth official because had he not been pratting about Clicker would have been subbed before the goal.
