Its irrelevant whether it should have been played or not, because it was played, but the fact that there is/was a doubt when the temperature was only half a degree below is shocking. I suspect that the lack of covers mightn't be a problem, but people at the ground (full time staff) to actually pull them on might be.

think you hit the nail on the head macca, those ground sheets are heavy and not a one man opperation, and the other thing is that the mainstand roof keeps the sun of the full length of the pitch which doesn't help..patio heaters anyone

It's relevant in that a different ref probably would have called it off. Unbelievable that a after seemingly solving the waterlogging problem at no little cost we are not able to protect the investment due to a lack of covers or manpower. Which is it?

Don't regard it as such? its like saying a different ref would probably have given a penalty or sent such a player off, Yeh gotta go wi what yer given.

Re: Match Thread V Barnet.....................
Had it not been Barnet - not round the corner - and a more local team like Morecambe, it may well have been called off, but it was not and our lads (for whatever reason) did not appear to fancy it.....

Don't think you quite follow my drift, Cashy! I was just trying to point out how vulnerable we still seem to be to possibly losing fixtures.

Re: Match Thread V Barnet.....................
Too late to bother now but I was at the ground early enough to see the Barnet team arrive and trust me they didn't want to play on it either, both teams were on the pitch before changing into their kits , they were digging their heels in the turf ,, both managers were wanting to call it off. Bet Barnet are glad they played now though , they took and deserved all 3 points.

Re: Match Thread V Barnet.....................
Even Lawrie Sanchez states on the Beeb, "In truth, the match should never have been played, the pitch was not fit. However, our lads adapted better" 'nuff said. After all I have been reading over the last few weeks and the one day I could actually get to a match, that happens - never again I say, never again.

Re: Match Thread V Barnet.....................
Wish I had never mentioned the bloody pitch !!
Anyway heres my take on the game that took place,Barnet had obviously watched us recently and the best way to play against 4-3-3 is match it,which they did.
Simply they went man for man in central areas and gave our playmakers little or no time on the ball(joycy and hughes).
There widemen pushed on our fullbacks and caused no end of problems with there pace and there defenders were big and mobile and give us nothing.
Our cbs had there hands full with the pace and movement macloud.
They impressed me and cant believe there league position with the players they have.
All the goals could have been defended better, the first, murph was caught up field when they broke and joycy never picked up the runner(dean should have left his man and attempt to get across) but the lad carried the ball too far.
The second was a miss match, podge shouldnt be marking there cb at a set piece, although toto let the ball go over his head, causing hesitation.
The last was a fluke, with the ball going thro a packed penalty area, but the original foul was a cheap one by toto, who didnt need to conceed.
In summary,we were poor against a good organised team, but IMHO we missed Longy and presence and reading of the game.
