McGrail Signs In

As expected following Colemans comments on radio lancs on saturday stanley have signed Chris McGrail on loan for 6 months. I rate this guy very highly but do we really need another forward?

Could be a good signing, but WHERE ARE THE DEFENDERS

Re: McGrail Signs In

With just one goal in three matches this season, we clearly do need more attacking options. Surely this must mean that D'Sane is out of here.

The only area in which we really need another player is central defence. Roberts and Rocky have been impressive, but Rocky still has that tendency to have a nightmare game every now and again (e.g. he was the marker in each of Darlington's three goals in Saturday, plus they should have scored another following Rocky's awful back pass in the first half).

Re: McGrail Signs In

I suppose it's yet another attacking option ! But with just over a week before the transfer window closes until January, I, like many others, feel we need to sign a couple of experienced defenders.

I know the club has stated that we are looking to bring in some defensive cover, but after Saturday's performance, I would have thought that this would have become more of a proirity.

After all, If we suddenly start picking up injuries and suspensions, we are going to be struggling for defensive cover. Plus the fact that any extra defenders brought in will keep the lads currently occupying the defensive berths "on their toes" so to speak.

Re: McGrail Signs In

There is no doubt that we need defensive cover. Another attacker will indeed give us more attacking options - but we have to use these options. When the opposition do their pre-match checks on Stanley, it cannot take them long to work out our main attacking thrust. Other threads have commented on this. In the Leicester match, the introduction of Shaun Whalley added a new dimension. It was also noticeable that Kenny Arthur began to throw the ball more often to the wings after Shaun's arrival, thus building attacks through different routes and giving oppostion defenders more to think about.

If:

1 Paul Simpson is looking to get the lad experience and there may have been people competing for his signature and

2 He is as good as Coley obviously thinks he is and remember we had four points riding on his eligibility to play for us at last season's tribunal

then he had to be signed now. You could not expect the lad or Paul Simpson to wait until we'd got a couple of extra stoppers.

I am not doubting either of these statements, in fact I agree wholeheartedly. What I was trying to get across was, whilst this is probably a good signing for both the player and both clubs involved, the fact remains that as many have said before, we are short of a couple of experienced defenders.

I am sure Coley has one or two irons in the fire with regards to signing some defensive cover, but the defender issue is causing much concern to many. In the long term, solving this issue may hold the key to our season.

we now have loads of 'attacking' players dont forget we have brown as well. I rate him very highly. Last season he scored a few good goals when he was given a chance to play! having an extra striker is useful though, because we can play in many different ways/ formations. This will be handy for games which are against the 'not so good sides'

Don't get me wrong - I share your concerns.

Why so puzzled Oggy? The lad cost us money last season - Eric's just getting his moneys worth now

I am amazed that no-one has come up with the obvious. ATTACK is the best form of defence!!!

Bloody wasn't last season!

Nah I think McGrail has a lot of ability and can do a job for us. We are lacking a nifty little striker while D'Sane has a knock & McGivern ain't as sharp as he can be. Do yer best Chris
