Re: New Signing
From Liverpool Website:
Wavertree lad Butler is a good prospect at left back. Strong in the tackle, he gets forward well and posseses a magic wand of a left foot. A hard lad who takes no prisoners, his range of passing is excellent and he has represented England at U18 level.
His biggest weakness in his early days at the Academy was a lack of discipline and notoriously bad temper, which has landed him in trouble with referees on several occasions, most notably when he was sent off at Anfield in the Youth Cup for one of the worst tackles ever seen at the stadium.
He seems to have learned from that however, and has since behaved very well, even in the face of some strong provocation from Manchester United players at u19 level who were clearly trying to get him sent off.
It was perhaps understandable that they should try and test his self restraint, as in the past he'd seen the red mist against United on a regular basis, including three red cards in successive seasons!
He was in good form last season until a knee injury sustained in a reserve game at Blackburn cut short his campaign. His Academy contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but the club have given him another year to prove himself.
