He cost Forest that when he joined from Tranmere in 1997.
So he'll be 4 times better than Doherty?

Re: New signing.. Left back

just to cheer this thread up a bit after the last couple of posts (Oggy is feeling a bit fruity tonight), LET report that Coley is close to tying up a deal to sign Mannix on a permanent deal. It goes on to say that the 24 year old has had five operations on a troublesome knee.

So how is five operations on a troublesome knee cheering this thread up?

His nickname at Forest was "Tank" apparently:

Here's an explanation from the Guardian:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/Colum...197194,00.html

"And it would be nice to think that the left-back Alan Rogers knows what an honour is accorded him in the shout of "Come on, Tank!" as he races up the touchline with the ball at his feet, giving the same impression of power and resolution that originally prompted the fans to bestow the nickname on Peter Hindley, the right-back of Johnny Carey's lovely side almost 40 years ago. "

Not sure if that really helps.

It was John Bray, Dave Whelan's Rovers partner at full back who was nick-named "Tank" - built like a brick ****house.

Re: New signing.. Left back

Congratulations on buying the most useless, self opinionated, trouble making lump of lard ever to wear the forest shirt !- The quote Jeff posted was not far of the mark (although that'd be complimentary from our point of view!! )
The (£2m) Rogers of 10 years ago was a great player, the Mk 2 version - well all i can say is get to the ground early before he buys all the pies!! "tank" was his original nickname - this time round it was PODGERS (plus some unrepeatable ones lol)
Forest actually paid off the remainder of his contract as he was so disruptive / useless!! At one stage he went to Stoke but when he was told they wanted him to have a trial he sat on the bonnet of his car sulking & asking "don't they know who I am?"
He was also accused by the Forest Manager at the time (Megson) of giving our line up & tactics to opposition managers.
All in all you're more than welcome to him - call it our revenge for that cup result

Doesn't sound too good does it - I'm really hoping its just sour grapes from Forest Forever but I have a funny feeling it isn't. I'll save judgement till I've seen him play and keep me fingers crossed we haven't landed ourselves with another liability as we did with a certain Mr Justin Jackson.

Re: New signing.. Left back

I like the bit about 'do you know who I am'. Sounds like he's been brought down a peg or two though if he has signed for us after not wanting to even train at Stoke................

Good luck Alan. Our new rough diamond

Re: New signing.. Left back

Since his £2M move from Tranmere to Forst 10 years ago he was also bought by (I think Mickey Adams) when he was at Leicester for decent money. Looks like everytime time he's gone to a club the manager has got the sack shortly after.........not that I'm saying it's as a result of his signing! but watch out Coley !!

Couldn't have been that bad for Forest to buy him back again could he??

Heard he was on about £10,000 a week at Forest and would have been on about that if not more at Leicester in the Premiership! He didn't play more than a handful of games for Forest for the last 2 years of his contract on was training with a number of clubs (including Stanley) during that time due to a clash with Megson. He obviously doesn't need the money so let's home he's here to enjoy his football...........and a few pies!

Re: New signing.. Left back

They do say "you should never go back."

As I understand it the pay of Stanley players has a strong performance related element.

He may have been well paid in the past but with five or six years of his playing career left you'd think he'd have every incentive to do well and get back up the Leagues.

Re: New signing.. Left back

Actually I think I mainly remember Alan Rogers playing on the left side of midfield.

He played in a few Championship games I had an interest in and he was always one to watch out for.

Re: New signing.. Left back

Good signing IMHO. Will bring much needed league experience. I don't think his attitude will be a problem - JC will bring the best out of him.
